the problem is that nothing else runs OSX which is a benefit in its own right

 

I mean spec for spec id get the new blade or an MSI or something, but Macbooks are still awesome machine for content creators

 

id love to get one purely for photo and vidoe work, forgetting the specs they just so well optimised for those applications

I mean, I can understand laptops for 1000$ or less having dual cores, but a "pro" laptop for 2000$ having a dual core is just plain idiotic.

They have a reason for that and see why they made the trade off. But adding one on the body I am sure would not have been hard at all. If you can hot swap GPUs you can surely change or output to both audio jacks

I don't want a flame ware but you have to consider when the products were released. But having an AMD 455 or 460 is pathetic when you can get something for the same price with a desktop 1080 with 8gbs of GDDR5X rather then 2gbs of GDDR5. Also the screen on the new macbooks aren't even 4K.

Microsoft was too busy celebrating the fact that they could use the hinge design on the Surface Book. They developed a working prototype of the hinge in 2007, they were probably shit faced when someone remembered the headphone jack.

My wife's MacBook has the headphone jack on the top right side, rarely does it ever interfere with the (Bluetooth)mouse, and even with Apple Earpods the Mac has to be out of reach before the cord becomes an issue(Earpods have like a 1m long cable, that's long and fairly standard, and longer than my arms).

 

My 2007 MacBook on the other hand has the headphone jack(s) in the "optimal" space, and it frequently gets tangled with the charger cord. I like the new designs better.

So much Apple hate on this forum. I'm not crazy about the new Macbook lineup but at least they tried something different. Most people who hate on Macbooks here probably never even used them. Even on inferior hardware they tend to perform as good if not better than their PC counterparts. 

 

Another thing, the "Pro" title is marketing bullshit. 

13-in MBP --> Made for students/people on the go

15-in MBP --> Made for mobile content creators/people with too much money who need to show they can afford the best

 

A 13-in MBP with dual core i5 and 8GB is more than enough horsepower for 90% of the population. Sure it isn't great value, but some people enjoy the feeling of using a high-quality product. Go pick up a Macbook at the Apple store and you'll understand the feeling. Apple capitalizes on that feeling. 

 

When I worked a Best Buy, we always said that the easiest way to upsell to a Macbook (or iPad) was to put the product in the customers hands. Trust me it works.

No, they're not built quite as solid-feeling as Macbooks, but they're not too far off and they're much, much more resilient. It's easier to build a block of glass and aluminum than it is to build something you can drop.

The reason I'm picking the dell XPS 13/15 is because it's a comparable machine in terms of the market it's aimed at (well half of it's target audience) and they are comparable spec and price wise.

So what you are saying is you don't want innovation and for ports to move forward...right (this is like the argument between PS2, VGA, micro/mini USB ect. being replaced by USB for mouse/KB, DVI, type-c ect.).

 

The Type-c port has the functionality of USB, Thunderport, display port, charging, it can replace all the ports including Ethernet and more importantly (this isn't just for you), the Dell XPS 13 (the window's laptop EVERYONE praises for) doesn't have Ethernet, HDMI and it only has 1 USB type-c (that's what you sound like) so why are you bashing the Macbook now?

The only real thing the macbook pro doesn't have is an SD card slot versus the Dell XPS 13 but it's not the end of the world to carry a USB type-c card reader is it?
