That pentium is closer to an atom processor than an i3. The Core 2 Duo in my 2010 MBP is better.

 

That MSI laptop is an inch and a half thick. No point comparing a Macbook to a gaming laptop. Macbooks have never been and never will be designed for gaming.

That is true.

I disregarded gamers, generally speaking (though there are some gamers who actually game on an iMac or MacBook Air or MacBook Pro), as Macs aren't suitable for gaming to begin with for the price Apple is selling them at. So I made sure I had my ass covered with that knowledge

 

Trust me I've used a 2009-2010 iMac (they're old and are no longer used) in highschool and it blows in 3D Animation and Modeling. I recently finished a 3D render in Blender and that took about 1 hour and 30 minutes with just using the CPU alone.

 

Another thing why I'm not buying an Apple desktop is the cost-to-power ratio is way out of proportion: you're paying more for lackluster performance. To me, there's nothing that a Mac Pro can easily match when pitted against a Windows computer. Mine would be running circles all day every day, and mind you I paid around USD $3,000 for the whole setup.

I think you missed the point on the price comparison, the first laptop is also 4 or 5 year old technology, the second was the 2500 hundred dollar price range. It was trying to point out what you can get for the same dollar value.

The size is also relevant as in you have to give up something for something in return. There is no such thing as a macbook that is worth having that is that thin. Hell i can probably get more power out of a Pixel C tablet, least it uses a NVIDIA Tegra® X1 with Maxwell GPU... (little sarcasm but not much)

Idk, I think that's a mixed bag, the black rMBPs with the touchid/touchbar do look pretty decent (both 13" and 15").

 

But neither does my $350, HP 15-BA079DX.

I'll bring my system down to one video card and let you run the exact same rendering on my PC and I guarantee you, your imac even a brand new up to date one couldn't come close to mine.

Comparing that MSI laptop to a MBP is an Apples and Oranges comparison (shitty pun intended). They do not target the same market at all. The charger alone probably weighs more than a 15" MBP. Don't even think about comparing battery life and ease of transportation.

 

Also my 6 year old MBP that I paid 1400 CAD in 2010 is better than the 600$ laptop you posted. Again, forget about comparing it with a new generation MBP.

I'm on a GTX 960 4GB FTW and I hope to upgrade in January/February. Thing is that GPU isn't that fast when it goes up against a CPU overclocked to 4.5 GHz, and mind you my GPU is running damn close to instability for general use. But we agree that the iMac and the lowest-end Mac Pro can't get within like arm's reach of a custom-built PC running the same software that would otherwise be found on macOS (except Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro X)

 

Also I don't have an iMac, and I don't plan on getting one unless it's absolutely necessary for work. But I can probably build a Hackintosh once I learn how to get the OS and slam it onto a custom-built PC.

You are 100% correct. I was being a little sarcastic. But i would like to see what your 6 year old MBP could do against my Acer laptop of roughly the same age.

Very nice. Call me old fashion but i really don't trust liquid cooling. When you spend that kind of money and a single drop can blow your warranty completely out of the water (bad pun) I'll stick with air cooling. I spend a good deal of time in data centers so the noise is almost nothing on my home pc.

 

Btw i'm gonna take a wild stab at the fact you are in your early 20's? The LED lights are sort of a give away. I did the same thing back then with Cold cathode lights and reactive plastic fans that lit up with a blue light on them, fun times lol. I wish i still had pictures of the keyboard I rebuilt when i was 16 (over 20 years ago) and put flexible neon cabling in the damn thing to make it glow. No one ever believes i did it back then lol

I'm pretty impressed with my acer chromebook c720, it runs windows 10 64 bit like a dream, and it actually has an awesome battery life. Sure, build quality is a bit... plastic, but I treat my laptops nicely so its not an issue

I believe that's the same Chromebook I nearly bought to do the same thing you have lol. I ended up not going with it because it didn't have a FHD display, which is a must for me on laptops anymore.

My Sennheiser HD212 Pro have a 3 meter long audio cable. I can literally make circles around any laptop with the cable.

 

And you can always buy extension cables, they're less than 5$ for about 2 meters extension (literally first result on Amazon) or around 7$ if you want the higher end gold plated stuff , cheaper if you want only 1 meter,

Completely different target market, that's would be a good mobile workstation/gaming device but it would be plagued with heat issues where it's not that ideal anyway  (plus even with it just idling, you will not see more than 4 hours of battery life out of it).

Yes I am in my early 20's. No I don't use the "Color Cycle" preset in my Asus AURA software, and I'm not a fan of LED fans (especially the RGB ones. How much more over-the-top can we get?). It's set to the "Breathing" effect, and the color as you saw, is purple.

 

The reason why I went with a liquid cooler is because the 5930K is a really hot CPU. It's running at 4.5 GHz at 1.25 volts, and under software load or 3D rendering tasks, temps can reach into the low 80's, thanks to the use of Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. I used to use the Prolimatech PK-2, but that couldn't keep up.
