There's only so many enthusiasts/PC gamers and professionals that benefits from GPU acceleration and well frankly, since iGPUs were part of consumer grade CPUs, dGPUs sales have dipped compared to before iGPUs existed where chipset GPUs existed rather than iGPUs :/

that's my point . there aren't that many cases that use a dgpu , and most people use an igpu . Plus , gpu dies are usually sold at much lower margins.

A cpu die is usually much smaller and sells for more than a gpu die . Just look a the 6950x . It has a ~240mm² die size and sells for 1700$ . Then you have the rx 480 , which is roughly the same size and on the same node , but only sells for 200-250$

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

where I live, pretty much no one buys from Amazon. So pretty unsurprising to me Amazon has competition :P

Almost nothing ships from Amazon to where I live, and those that do the shipping costs from Amazon are more than the cost of the product.

Alibaba is just as far away, but offers free shipping on a lot of orders.

Yep.  $1608 was the final.  Used that little bit of cash to get some Biomed stocks, and then ended up selling all my stocks a month and a half ago.  Ended up spending $38,000 on silver, gold, and AK-47 / AK-74's.  Worth it.

Well if amd is offering a better deal price wise why wouldn't they? Though I find it odd that the graphics chips make sense for this tbh, I guess it's a highly parallel task but it makes me wonder why I haven't heard other companies doing it there must be a limitation of some kind that stops them from doing so.

most other companies arent large enough to make it worth it.

Alibaba is one of the biggest businesses in china. Its by far as large as Amazon, just a few billions separating the two in size... When it comes to companies that size, you can no longer compare them to other places that runs off maybe 20-30 servers..

I never said AMD's workstation (W) cards had no use case, just the Pro Duo.

And Alibaba isn't stupid enough to put Pro Duos in their servers, if that tells you anything.

I was given a choice by my parents to buy some shares (with my own money ovb) if I wanted and I almost jumped onto AMD when they were $1.9~ ;-;

Yeah, you might make a fortune on one of these runups but imo it's a little too risky.  $6.75 per share with a 6B market capitalization? no thank you...

Yeah but if amd went under you'd lose everything, it's essentially gambling at that point

Ah well, it's only a little bit of money...I remember when my bank was 5-8% interest rate per month so I actually saved the 1000 quid I had but now...1-2% so I may as well keep it in cash form where I'm 2000000x less likely to spend it :P

I wonder how the Chinese intend to get around the trade embargo put on Intel, Nvidia, and AMD that forbids them from selling high-end parts to the Chinese.

Awhile ago something had occurred where AMD is effectively the only one allowed to sell to them, and people back then were like, "This is amazing - they can corner that market and make a huge come-back!" and then nothing happened for fourteen months until now.

It's just that the CEO of Alibaba is one insightful guy who can see the potential in people. Plus, we don't know what's RWBY in China. No youtube + there are better waifus out there.

AMD can sell them CPUs, but that's because AMD's current server parts suck.

That and their future parts that're more Haswell like.  I think like @Prysinsaid, they can get around it with middle-man companies / proxies.

Wow... AMD seems to be getting a lot of partnerships recently... First there was that hint with some Chinese corporation which brought in 150 million and should bring in more in the long term, then there were two new consoles, and now this.
