£550 or so for a Dell XPS 420 from the dell outlet store, Q6600 2.4GHz quad and a nVidia 8800GT, which got upgraded to a GTX 550, shame it died last year, will be missed. If you're building yourself, you don't really need to spend more than about £1000 for a 1080p gaming desktop to be able to play most things nowadays.

My first build was around $500. It had an AMD FX 6300 with a 7850. The case and psu were all generic brands.

500$?

Mine was 650$ and had fx-6300 and 7850. Of course I had a phantom 410, but still...

Hey, I plan on buying my first Gaming PC and, I want something good, if not I may aswell just get a PS4.

I want to game in 1440p and have a system that lasts me a long time (4 maybe 5 years hopefuly).

So I'm spending alot on this computer, around 1800€ which will be the most money I've ever spent on 1 thing. (I'm 18)

How much was your first computer ? (With screen and peripherals)

Do you think it's rational or fine for someone to save up and spend alot of money on their computer ?

Thoughts and opinions let's go !  :D

5000 ish

Frys had an in store MOBO, CPU bundle. While the GPU itself was a refurb with no display cables. If it wasn't for that bundle I would've bought an i5 with a 750 or something.

I bought mine DIYed at a shop in October 2011 for S$1250  or about 1000 USD. With a Core i5 2500K, 8GB RAM, GTX 550 Ti, P8P67 Pro, Stock Cooler, 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue, Optical DVD Burner, 600W Enermax PSU, ThermalTake SpaceCraft VF-I. The rig just recently went to my brother but with the Stock Cooler upgraded to the CoolerMaster Hyper 212, PSU upgraded to a Corsair HX-1000 and the GPU upgraded to an 1GB XFX 6950. It was my base to practice my PC DIY so I tinkered with it alot, undergone RAM changes and LOTS of GPU changes,

Overpriced in Singapore and that is WITHOUT peripherals and monitor which I luckily had on hand to avoid spending any further.

Main Machine: Core i7 2600K, 12GB RAM, GTX 970 SLI, P8P67M-PRO, Fractal Define R3, 250GB Samsung 850 EVO, 2TB WDC Green, Windows 10    Laptop: MBP 13" Retina 2014 Haswell: 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, OS X El Capitan

Piano Recording Rig: Compaq HP 6200 SFF Core i3 2100, 4GB RAM, 750GB HDD, Zotac GTX 750 Low Profile OC, Windows 7 Pro

Available Spare Parts: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD

My first PC was $1600, but with my entire setup I've put well over $2300 into it with monitors, speakers, mouse, ect. I was only 16 but worked my ass off to earn that money, well worth it as I'm still using it 1 year later!

Well yes. I would obviously not be spending multiple thousands on past, current and future builds if I did not think so.

Always rational if you enjoy what you do. My first pc cost $1200 in 1986 and $2000 in 1991 for an IBM compatible. both very basic systems but in that time very very expensive.

So yep, spend what you can and enjoy it.

Showing your age (: they were top of the line apparently, to bad I used my first 1992 IBM PC in 2008 lol. Not to great then.

My first PC was about 700 aud and was a piece of poo, now I have slowly upgraded and is now worth around 2600 aud

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm curious of what your first PC build was and the parts you used, I am 17 years old and I only built my first PC two years ago, but I've been PC Gaming since I was like 7, playing Half-Life, DOOM, Flight Simulator etc. So just post your first build if you feel so inclined :P

My first build, built in late 2012.

CPU: Intel i5 3450
Motherboard: P8H77-M
RAM: 4GB XMS3 @1333mhz
Chassis: Coolermaster Elite 430, which has been 'upgraded' since to a Fractal Design Define R4
GPU: GTX 650, I stupidly fried this card March 2013 but it was a good performer, my current GPU is a 7870
PSU: Corsair CX750
Storage: 500GB Seagate Barracuda, pretty bad drive, it's slow and very noisy, I have since added a couple of 60gb hard drives for more storage and an 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus SSD as my Boot Drive
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Main PC: Fractal Design Define R4 - Intel i5 3450 - Sapphire 7870 - Samsung 8GB @1600mhz - Corsair CX750w - Sandisk 128gb Ultra Plus SSD - Seagate Barracuda 500gb - P8H77-M

Keyboard and Mouse: Corsair Vengeance K70 (Cherry MX Blues) and a Razer Deathadder 2013
