What was your first computer?

xserd

So many memories... nfs underground, unreal tournament GOTY and 2004 (After I added the video card that is lol). I think the card was an Nvidia 6200 AGP. I still have that PC actually but I think the BIOS got bricked so it's just on my shelf with a floppy disk in it haha. It lasted a little over 8 years. I may even try bringing back to life with some new parts and make myself a home server. Hmmm....

My very first OWN computer (Entirely belonged to me) was a cheap £200 E-Systems PC with some foxconn case (Most of the components were foxconn, I later found out)

I think it had an Intel Pentium D @ ~3.0GHz
S3 Graphics off the chipset

80GB IDE HDD
512MB RAM

etc. etc. and the majority of it's life it was used to play runescape 2007-2008. I think I got it somewhere between 2006-2007 and I was only about 11-12

Spoiler

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700X | Mobo: ASUS Strix X570-I Gaming ITX | GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition | RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB 3600MHz | Storage: Corsair Force MP600 1TB PCI-e Gen 4 & 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda | Cooler: Stock Prism | Case: NZXT H210i | PSU: Corsair CS500M

The first computer I ever owned for myself was a crud Windows XP computer from 2005 or something.  First one I ever used, though, was a DOS computer, I forgot what operating system it used, though, I'm guessing it was Win 95.

Wasn't 95 DOS based? (I shouldn't say since I wasn't alive when DOS was popular.)

Yeah, but there is a big difference between using straight DOS, 6.22 and below, and using Windows 9x. Windows 9x is like DOS easy mode.

Mine was an Apple IIe at the dawn of the 486.

My dad worked as a janitor for the local school district and they offered one to him.  Apple IIe with the Monochrome green display.

We had that for two years and he managed to upgrade us to a 486 that was so dated that the cd drive did not load with a tray; you put that cd in a cartridge and hen put the cartridge in the tray.  In hindsight he might have gone with it because it was a kid safe design.

Man this topic is nostalgic.

For the curious; my dad's abilities were eventually recognized and he does a lot of the system building for the school district now. they realized they were wasting talent and moved him up the ladder.

Sounds like the OS you are describing with the green text is MS-DOS.

got given a pentium 2 slot1 recently currently residing in a 9400gt box..

will take some new pictures soon, ignore the weird speeds, in bios theres the option to overclock with a 110fsb and a 115fsb, no voltage though and it does work at 110 (715mhz!! WOO WOO) but can be a bit wierd, gonna put the mx440 back in once i get a new cooler for it.

I dont know exactly what my first PC was but i know it had a intel Pentium 3 @ 800Mhz, some random ATI Diamond stealth AGP vdeocard, 512MB of ram, 40GB HDD and a yellow ASUS motherboard and holy crap was that system fast. I used to game on it all day playing C&C generals and freedom fighters along with some other crappy games but i was always trying to get AA to work without lagging my games up. Oh and I still have the old CRT i used to use and i still love it.

I used a 2001-2003 Mac Pro, still a snazzy looking case, so much so that they only recently replaced it with a trash can, but inside the one from 10-13 years ago was a potato chip and a half empty bottle of flat coke. It had a really low res monitor that looked really dumb but I can't find it. My mom STILL has this computer, and she refuses to throw it away! It won't boot, but she STILL maintains that it's perfectly fine, and keeps it plugged in and set up in her bedroom.

The first computer I have ever used was an old pentium something XP computer, with an unnamed nvidia card, that my dad thought was radeon. That thing lasted more than 12 years with people from age 5, to 15 using it at the same time, downloading who knows what. The first computer I "Owned" ( Bought by my dad, given to me and my brother) was a 3rd gen i7 Toshiba with integrated graphics, and a 720p screen. $700. What a steal. The first computer I (mostly) bought, and is mine is my current rig. Caselabs with i5, samsung 750Gb SSD(Gb/s+ read and write times!), and soon to be 780 and H105. By far, the best computer I have ever used.

My new rig build log:http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/80801-m-itx-pc/?p=1158887 Now finished with  970!                          Can anybody give me a freelancer?                  I need to transport more HYPBP.               Butt Imperium games                     RAINBOW .                   840 EVO still awesome                    The evil that is verizon has been vanquished!      ܝܘܚܢܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܦܪܝܡ
