Anyone else notice that the rated clockspeeds on the pixel page are actually for the 820, not the 821? And the only difference perf wise on the 821 vs 820 is clock speeds.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Google's "Pixel" products have always been pricey gadgets. They're wanting to compete with the iPhone, something I'm glad they're doing because I was ready to switch.

I really like this phone. Also with unlimited photo storage it is really tempting for us consumer...

But.......

The design philosophy is likely intended to make it look appealing to people who are used to iPhones. You as a more informed consumer know the differences from the top down, but with normal people it would be more appealing if it wasn't 100% different than what they normally use. This is also why Google is offering 24/7 live support for Pixel phones, along with other various things that the general consumer wants, not just tech enthusiasts.

The 821 does have some power optimizations that went into attaining those clock speeds too. It's not just a factory over clocked 820. And because of that, an 821 running at the same speed as an 820 will be cooler which is important for Daydream.

They seem to target apple users, but I am skeptical how successful that would be.  I just can't see how the Pixel will appeal iphone users into leaving apple.

Eh I feel very much they tried to emulate the iphone experience with this phone but not because of how it looks, it doesnt even look like an iPhone imo (except for those YUGE bezels). But the lack of features (wireless charging, water resistence, more), with the new focus on social software implementation and the hilarious price makes it feel very iphone like. Sort of like the iphone option on the android side, and honestly it seems they were going for that especially with the push on that new easy switch adaptor they are including.

The iPhone 7 in a way seems less like an iPhone than the Pixel imo.

I believe its not just me, but most of us here, that know DxO Mark shouldnt be taken anywhere to a serious as it is to evaluate camera performance levels, as Displaymate is to display evaluation. Just saying, because the mumbling is too great. Sure, it must be an excellent camera, but better than every other manufacturer, especially after seeing some initial snapshots? Hmm.

 

P.S: Google Pixel will be the last phone from them to carry a headphone jack mostlikely, so they better prepare theyr faces to get slammed next year when no jack is shown xD! Unless theyr really neglectful on past. "Yesterday, is set tomorrow".

Nonetheless, still better than the other Android phones in terms of software and speed, which is what matters. If you want lightning speed on Android, this is the way to go.

2 years is better than the Nexus devices (18 months) and if the Pixel phones are popular will probably be far longer. The Nexus 5 got updates for what...? 23 months?

 

I imagine they're looking at the Pixel C and setting a conservative guarantee to avoid a commitment to providing updates on a device nobody buys.
