Another BlackBerry Device Rumoured, Codename 'Aragon'

From Pocket Lint:

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/138132-blackberry-s-next-flagship-dtek60-what-s-the-story-so-far

Quote

Blackberry is expected to launch two new phones over the next year. One of them is the DTEK60 - formerly referred to as the Argon - and by the sounds of it, this will be the company's 2016 flagship phone. It's a big, all touchscreen device with a powerful processor and support for the latest Quick Charge and Type-C connectivity.

When it does eventually launch, it will be the second Android phone released by BlackBerry this year, and sits just above the DTEK50 in the all-touch range.

Specs for what is the next BlackBerry device is rumoured to be as follows:

5.5" diagonal, 534 PPI, Quad HD AMOLED touch screen

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64-bit Quad-Core (MSM8996 with 64 bit Quad-Core 2+2 Kryo 2.15GHz / 1.6GHz), Adreno 530, 624MHz GPU

4 GB RAM, 32 GB Flash storage with MicroSD slot, supporting up to 2TB

USB Type-C

3000 mAh 4.4V non-removable Lithium-Ion battery

QC3.0 Enabled

21MP auto focus rear camera, 8MP front camera with flash

Fingerprint sensor & Convenience key

153.9mm tall, 75.4mm wide and 7mm thin

No pictures of the device are available at the moment, but previous rumours have indicated that it may be a rebadged Alcatel Idol 4S.

Overall, very competitive specs; the Snapdragon 820 processor indicates this phone should be a great performer and BlackBerry has been very good about keeping bloatware off , while keeping the OS updated. Good to see a USB Type C connector as well. The specs appears to justify this as a flagship phone. Rumoured pricing is about $600-$700 USD, and is expected to be launched sometime this October.

I'm fine with or without the 3.5 jack. All of my headphones break at the connector. I'd give a round of applause if someone used a magnetic NFC pad for headphones.

How about a magsafe style headphones connector like you can get usb cables for?

That looks good, but I think the biggest weakness of the 3.5mm is the connector sticking out. Harsh bumps could break the pin and catching can break the wire at the connector. If the magsafe could be placed on the back of the phone, I'd think it'd be safer from any harm. I'm a vet and NOT an engineer so I wouldn't be the guy to design it.

That's never happened to me.  What the heck are you doing to your devices?  I've had micro and mini usb ports go to pot and the female housing needed to be bent back into form so they weren't such a sloppy mess of a connection for the male end.  But 3.5mm snap?  nope, never.

I tend to have my earphones on when I'm at a farm or field helping with mares and other animals and having to get in and out of a vehicle is tough on the connector. I've since started using a wireless earpiece for fieldwork.

And it's once again too expensive.

If they want BB to get some marketshare back they need phones at all price ranges, preferably at the 200 dollar range.

Look at motorola after google got it. Motorola was almost completely gone from the market but look where they are/were before lenovo got hold of them. Everybody knew about them and they sold very well.

That's what BB should be doing, not this junk.

If they want companies to get on the BB boat they need to make it cheap BUT worth the money.

Or just do like motorola to get some consumers on their side :P

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

I usually assume USB 2.0. Then again, I would have to check the Type C specs and see if 3.0 is a requirement for the standard.

It is not, Type-C only refers to the connector. It allows for USB 1.x, 2, 3.0, 3.1 and DP alt mode.

FFS

personally I'm deeply in love with BB, but i'm also super pisssed at them at the same time

I'm a "classic" owner, and frankly, I was plainly screwed on that phone (as a consumer, not business user) support for apps dying, and being removed etc,
I love the OS
I love the phone,
i hate typing on a touch screen, with a passion there is a deep hate stemming from both fat fingers and... well mostly that, and the bold was a faultless typer in the day
but the lack of support meant I have in the last few days been thinking "damn it, just for the support alone, worth going to a priv, despite the cost" just being able to use facey messenger in real time would be a bliss (it was removed from the classic, and 3rd aps frankly suck at what was once great)

there was a debate, between the priv, and my partners note 7, (since recalled, but omg, how crap is the plain S7 next to a note 7??) and the fact I still type lots on my phone meant the priv wins,

but will blackberry support it,
till the classic, I would have said yes
but the classic seems about as loved as a red headed step child by blackberry, and I dont want to be buying the priv only for the support to wane like it has with the BB OS as a whole, and the classic,

will they keep ontop of andriod releases for at least another two versions (ie bring it to the current one, and the next??) or will it be left, unloved???

(kinda tick's me off, this was a company that once you could have bet that your phone would get at least 3-4 years of loving updates and care, and the phones were built for it, or at least easy enough to work on to make them last that long
my old bold went through the black wednesday bushfires in Victoria as both a first responder, and an operations role,. but backed it up for a prolonged first responder role, and running an entire region in Queensland during the  2010/11 floods, only to then back it up with cyclone yasi (and being left on a log for four hours in the shitty weather as a cleared a road with chainsaws, and the brute force of a toyota camry!)
