Posted August 11, 2016 This thread is going to cover building my first ever PC. After several months, over half a year of planning, I am building my first Personal Computer. Before the mentioned months of planning, I knew next to nothing about computers. I discovered that things like GPU’s and CPU coolers existed and began the daily, religious practice of picking parts within the great pcpartpicker.com realm. After several picked and modified build choices, many of you can probably attest as witness, literally dozens of planning posts and stupid questions has aloud me to summarize a general list of parts and desires. The true purpose of this thread is to have some of my homies back me up when I get into sketchy situations. Also, just for me to look back on and observe my progress. To get on with it, the reason I am building a computer is because my 2012 iMac leaves something to be desired. I would like to step into the world of gaming, more so than I already have. Currently, I continue to partake in Starcraft 2 after 3 years of solid competency. This game has allotted me the given of investing in gaming peripherals. So, without ado, here [screenshot of purchase] is what started my first PC build and really forced myself to commit to this journey. Here is what I decided on: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4wvj2R Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4wvj2R/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($249.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($59.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($152.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($66.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($89.39 @ Newegg) Storage: Western Digital Red 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($117.99 @ Best Buy) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card ($454.98 @ Newegg) Case: Phanteks ECLIPSE P400 ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($90.98 @ Newegg) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link Archer T9E PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter ($74.95 @ Newegg) Monitor: Dell S2716DG 27.0" 144Hz Monitor ($519.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1923.22 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-08-10 20:53 EDT-0400 CPU — AMD Ryzen 7800X3D GPU — AMD RX 7900 XTX - XFX Speedster Merc 310 Black Edition - 24GB GDDR6 Monitor — Acer Predator XB271HU - 2560x1440 165Hz IPS 4ms CPU Cooler — Noctua NH-D15 Motherboard — Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX V2 Memory — 32GB G.Skill Flare X5 - 6000mHz CL32 Storage — WD Black - 2TB HDD — Seagate SkyHawk - 2TB HDD — Samsung 850 EVO - 250GB SSD — WD Blue - 500GB M.2 SSD — Samsung 990 PRO w/HS - 4TB M.2 SSD Case — Fractal Design Define R6 TG PSU — EVGA SuperNOVA G3 - 850W 80+ Gold Case Fans — 2(120mm) Noctua NF-F12 PWM - exhaust — 3(140mm) Noctua NF-A14 PWM - intake Keyboard — Max Keyboard TKL Blackbird - Cherry MX blue switches - Red Backlighting Mouse — Logitech G PRO X Headphones — Sennheiser HD600 Extras — Glorious PC Gaming Race - Mouse Wrist Rest — Glorious PC Gaming Race - XXL Extended Mouse Pad - 36" x 18" — Max Keyboard Flacon-20 keypad - Cherry MX blue switches
 I can’t remember where or what it was called, but I watched a video comparing liquid to air cooling. In the video the person also had a hyper 212 evo for comparison. The person eded up putting more money worth of Noctua fans on the cooler itself and the performance of the 212 eve increased by maybe 3% or so. The actual structure of the cooler is very impressive from what I saw in the video. A nail in the coffin was how much a equal performing liquid cooler would have cost. The final nail in the coffin was from an unboxing video I watched where the individual explained the quality and part support for life Noctua provides. Originally, I wanted a higher end AOI liquid cooler. Then I ended up going for the 12s rather than the 14 or 15 because it was more than adequate and exceptional for the price. Guess that makes sense. I have NF-S12A FLX fans on mine, but I got them for about $7 per so I guess I really don't have terribly much room to talk I haven't noticed a substantial performance difference between the stock fan and 1x Noctua fan tbh, but a lot has changed with my entire build since I had the stock fan on there (new case with much more optimized airflow, new overall cooler performing CPU, and better cable management. Thanks though! Was just wondering why you picked a over b. I figured if they engineer the best fans than they could probably engineer the best air cooler too. I will find a link of that video later today. The I think it was Linus who added two $20 Noctua fans to a hyper 212 evo and the cooling performance didn't really change. The cryorig H7 is probably all that I would have needed. Posted August 13, 2016 Author Case came in Friday. The first immediate negative is the steel exterior; fingerprints show and stay on the case very easily, although it is not as bad as a screen on a phone. I already purchased some stainless steel wipes and they work excellent. My other first impressions are very solid and I love the case. Especially for $49.99! I will have to see how my first build goes to have a proper opinion. Then over time I will figure out how to use my Personal Computer after you install windows and software you use its just a normal pc but faster and can do more things then a normal hp or dell pc
 Posted August 14, 2016 I start at the CPU, find a good overclock on it then move to the RAM. Get yourself set up with a monitoring suite, I like NZXT CAM. Don't use CAM to overclock your graphics card though. Use PrecisionX or Afterburner. All those are free. If anyone asks you never saw me.
 CAM tells you everything, but does use a bit of RAM. In game I like PrecisionX for its overlay, an overlay puts information on the screen so you can keep track of what's happening with your computer. The more information you have, the closer to your overclocking limit you can get. I'm pretty serious about knowing everything going on in my PC. If anyone asks you never saw me.
