It's possible that a few paranoid delusions are actually valid but the vast majority are just for the purpose of hating on Microsoft.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Well microsoft kinda brought that on themselves now didn't they, they learned nothing from the XP debacle it seems and they will likely not learn anything from windows 10 backlash either. People just want an OS that works, and to feel like they are in control of it which windows 10 didn't have either category for a while and has made the second one worse.

I don't hate Microsoft at all. I'm not anti-Microsoft. They're just another company to me. I just kinda think it's funny how you jump to defend them at damn near everything.

Yeah just make a script that disables it or like what I have done. Go into the firewall and block Cortana communications so even if you turn it on it doesn't do anything

its easy enough to delete the cortana files to prevent it from working, i had to as it was constantly putting my cpu under 10% load.

 

renaming the following folder will stop cuntana from doing anything on your PC, only downside is that search will no longer work on your taskbar and start menu.

 

C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy

 

May be able to do the same in the new build, if so problem solved.

This disable Cortana voice recognition. The rest, you can turn off everything under Interest (and clear anything that is stored, if used) and Search settings (Click on the search box, and click on the gear icon).

 

From what I can see (at least visually) Cortana itself turns into a standard search box, with web search enabled (Bing, of course), with integration of Windows 10 features such as reminders (which doesn't use the web, beside syncing them between your Cortana installed/enabled devices) and notifications on them.  This also seem to have disable my notification from my phone being displayed on my desktop.

Windows 10 search from the taskbar and star tmenu has been pretty useless in my case so I would not miss it.

I do miss it a little, it was very convenient just to start typing to launch programs with it, much faster than searching the all apps with the mouse.

Well then we are in  a catch 22 situation aren't we, people won't upgrade because of auto updating, but if they don't upgrade they can't get the newest updates. I will end up getting a free windows 10 key just for the heck of it, but for now I'm staying on windows 7 on my main rig.

I just use "Everything" to find what I'm looking for now. It works very quickly. Dare I say just as fast if not faster than windows' built in search feature.
