The EVGA B3 isn't a BAD unit, it was once in T2, bumped because of the fan. What's it doing in T5 rn?

I mean, the B3 was never the performer that the G3 was even when we thought the B3 was a good unit.

 

Would you really put a CX450 in the same grouping with a G3? Because I wouldn't. I'd rather have the G3 and be one of the 99.9% of people who will never overload it. And of those .1%, even fewer will overload it to the point where the G3 will explode.

Agree with you there but you might want to put a warning next to it noting the OPP issue

Thing is, I could probably do little asterisks and warnings for tons of PSUs on here, but it'll lose the point of this being a simple tertiary system because it'll be cluttered.

It's a big enough problem to be worth noting, especially as those reading that they only need 650W for an 8700K and two high-powered cards may not understand that that doesn't mean heavily overclocked, and overload their PSU.

The B3 has better ripple performance than the G3. While the B3 does have quite a bit worse voltage deviation on 12V, I think we need to focus on the fact it was bumped 3 tiers, with the same protections issues. IMO we need to bump the G3 down or the B3 up.

Vreg on the 12V rail is hugely important though and not to mention better transient response on the part of the G3. Maybe I'll bump the B3 up to T3 or something but I don't think the G3 needs moving.

G3 never caused fireworks, is built better and the OTP issue is overrated - the fan should have no issues keeping it cool... The B3 started sparking, which is, IMO, a much more serious issue.

Because what happens when the Fan Controller burns and the Fan just doesn't spin at high load, the Unit Overheats and doesn't shut down?

Or what happens when the fan intake is obstructed for example because dust bunnies are playing on the Intake filter that most cases have wich isn't cleaned...

Counterpoint, the G3 does have OTP, it's just set very high, if the fan stop spinning of gets clogged it will still shut down before stuff starts dying instantly...

As @awesomegamer919 said, the G3 does have OTP (and OPP for that matter), it's just misconfigured.

The semi and nonmod variants are identical internally besides the modular board I believe, so yes, they would be on the same level as each other
