PSU Tier List [OLD]

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

In the list i see "Seasonic Platinum" in the Tier 1.

I can't find it anywhere though, is it an old model? Anybody knows?

The semi and full MOD versions are completely different. Semi is made by Enhance, fully modular is made by Seasonic

If some asshole with a current meter and a power hungry system tried hard enough they'd probably eventually give in, which seems to be more or less what happened

Most people do not.

And even if you get the Equipment, you need to know what to do with it.

So i'm looking for a new power supply for my pc. My pc dosen't need more then 450w of power but i want to get a 650w psu for some future proofing. So my question is in the tier 2, is the 2017 650w refer to the new cx line? If yes, then is there any difference between the M and non-M(except for modularity of course)? And what should i get?

Thanks in advance!

IIRC, the M has a sleeve bearing fan (which won't last as long). In terms of performance and quality, aside from the fan, they're basically equal.

What are you planning on upgrading to? SLI 1080s in an overclocked system? That's roughly what a 650W system would be. In that case, you can really afford a better PSU.

And with your current PC drawing 450W, I'm assuming it's something like a Vega 64 on air?

Thing is, even with a 1080 Ti system, 550W is plenty, assuming overclocking and a heavy gaming load.

Something like the Formula Gold 450-550W shouldn't cost that much more than the CX650 you're planning on getting, but it would be quieter, have a better fan and perform better.

Yes, the CX650 is one of the ones with the grey label. The CX is newer, has a rifle bearing fan (instead of sleeve bearing), and slightly updated internals.

Oh thanks, just one more question, the formula gold is of good quality? Like it won't take my components if it blows up? And it wont blow up in the first place?

P.S. I've got a i5 8400 and a gtx 1060 6gb

That's more like a 200W system. The Formula is a good PSU, and has protections and uses good components. Here's testing for the protections (and more stuff in the rest of the review)

Hey, i've found something that is in tier 2. What do you say about the 550W XFX TS Gold Series? Is it good quality etc... Is it enough for future proofing?

Thanks in advance!
