I'm not surprised, they need a nice fast and stable connection so that they dont miss a single conversation you have. Also don't worry about us spying on you because we don't use encryption that way everyone can know what you are saying/doing.

Who do you think puts those regulations into place?  The Comcasts of the world donate money to politicians and then the politicians create laws that help the interests of those corporations.  Regulation has nothing to do with it.  If an ISP can legally bribe politicians, there effectively is no regulatory oversight.  Cable companies effectively own the majority of media outlets.  In the United States, six large companies own all of the networks.


Personally, that's why I take net neutrality very seriously.  The Internet is the last bastion of truly diverse media.  Yeah, there is a lot of unsubstantiated information to sift through but at least the option is there.

I just want the government to realize how much of a monopoly ISPs are having right now. 

 

I'm so tired of paying 80 bucks a month for 27down/3.5up with a 450GB data cap. It's absolute blasphemy

 

Screw upgrading, make the product actually affordable first....

Kind of funny when people try to explain how a free market economy will be the solution to current policy issues.  Capitalism is the reason that US policy (foreign and domestic) is fucked up to begin with.  Common sense loses out to bribery.

Oh I'm quite aware of that fact, there in lies the problem, but unfortunately corruption has always existed in politics and always will so the only course of action that may have a lasting effect is limiting the power of the government. Also though I agree with net neutrality but do you think politicians listened because A) The people wanted to keep it, or B) Google Netflix etc threw money at them.

Capitalism would work a lot better in my view if we didn't have corporate legal protections, so long as a capitalistic society has laws that everyone must follow without workarounds or loopholes, then it could possibly level the playing field between buyer and seller. Additionally limiting the power of government prevents their corruption from causing as much harm.

 

For reference I'm not saying get rid of all regulation, just the more obtuse and non safety related regulations.

Capitalism works much better... if the political body did not have to beg corporations for money in order to compete for their seats.

 

Capitalism works when it is regulated.  If you do not regulate it, you have what you see now in the USA... if you can see it, that is.

The barrier of entry cost has nothing to do with regulation. It has everything to do with construction costs to go dig and lay line or run it over the phone poles.

It's hard to do that though if these companies are treated like human beings rather than legal fictions that have been created to provide a public good.  On certain issues, the government may have too much power and in other areas they may not have enough.  Power to take action isn't positive or negative on its face.  What's done with that power is what matters.

me being chinese people like to ask me do you think capitalism or communism is better and my answer is all of the above. the best economic system is a balance between the two

I agree 100%. I see all the time in the news "Goole buries internet in ocean for Africa!". THEN I AM SITTING HERE WITH 750Kb/s with only one ISP that won't allow me to have any other speed for $100 a month. Talk about monopolies.

Bernie or Bust. Bust being to move to Taipei or South Korea where common speeds are over 5Gigabit. Meanwhile in California I pay way too much for sub standard broadband at 25megabits down 50 up. (Verizon seems to care more about the data they collect since our plan is for 25/25 not 25/50) and visiting my brother in Minneapolis where the ISPs don't even meet the old shit standard of 2.5/1... 

 

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P
