The problem is that you can get an aftermaket 980ti for £100 less(£310) which should have same performance after overclock, as pascal can go up to 15% OC while Maxwell can go up to 25%OC. They have around 7% difference in performance at stock. So unless you worry about power usage this is not a brilliant price to performance card.

They are charging fucking $562 bucks for a cut down 312mm² chip.
AMD seriously needs to kick Nvidia's ass those price are getting absurd at this point.

Probably not happening this year, or at least this summer. 


Polaris is only going to be the low end maybe sort of making an attempt into fit into the mid end. 

 

The 8GB (US$230) RX 480 might be about R9 390/R9 390X performance. Won't know until the NDA ends on the 29th.

 

Honestly though, I wouldn't say Nvidia's prices are too bad at least in the states. The EVGA ACX 3.0 GTX 1070 is expected to start at US$400. If I recall correctly the base price of the GTX 1070 was like $380 but I'm not sure what the price for the FE card is or if the $380 is the FE price. Either way I don't think Nvidia's pricing on their current cards is too bad. It's pretty similar to last year.

 

Honestly though, I don't mind AMD either.

Check again, the gtx 970 launched at about 350$. 400£ is MUCH more than that, and if the US' prices are anywhere close it will be ridiculous.

The GTX 970 was $350, okay. Well the GTX 1070 is $380. So no. It's not that much more expensive.

Asus GTX 1070 Founders Edition is showing up for pre-order in NZ at a 'discounted' price of only $999, normally $1059.99 ($704 - 747 USD). WTF.

The Gigabyte and EVGA Founders editions from the same store are $899 ($633 USD).

 

GTX 1080 is still in the $1400-1550 ($987-1092 USD) price range.

 

The 970 was $600-700, this feels like a pretty big jump in price.

 

RX 480 is showing up as available to pre-order with price to be confirmed.

Lowest is 469eur in Germany. Guess I'll wait for the RX 480 and see if it's any better than the 1070.

Lol, I'm talking about US dollars. In the UK and Europe. Well I suppose that's a different story because of import duties and local/regional taxes. So in the US if the GTX 970 launched for US$350 and the GTX 1070 is launching for US$380 that's a US$30 difference.

I dont know about US prices for GTX 1080 but FE should cost MORE than aftermarket. Here in UK aftermakret costs a lot more...

Where did you find a 980 Ti for 310 pounds? On PCPartPicker it seems like all of them costs ~500 pounds or more. I can't find any 980 Ti for less than 500 pounds on Amazon either.

At 400 pounds the 1070 is actually a good deal in the UK. It's about 100 pounds cheaper and it seems like it has ~10% extra performance on average (plus additional features).

You can't compare US and UK prices like that. It's always much more expensive in Europe.

If the benchmarks are true, that the 480X is around 390X in terms of performance, then the 1070 will be about 37% faster at 1440p (according to these benchmarks).

The 480X will most likely have far better value than the 1070, but if you think it will only be 5% behind then you are going to be disappointed.
