Lets talk a bit about the absolutely insane performance the GTX 1080 offers. The GP100 based P100 has 3584 CUDA Cores. The chip itself has a turbo clock of 1480 Mhz. The total peak single precision performance of the P100 GPU therefore is 10.6 TFLOPs (3584 CUDA Cores x 2 Operations Per Second x 1480 Megahertz). To put this into perspective that is almost twice the theoretical single precision performance of the GTX 980 Ti. Keep in mind that the GTX 1080 features GDDR5X memory, which helps to further accentuate the fact that the graphics card will push limits. Owing to the high clocked GDDR5X memory and the 16nm FinFET+ process, the GTX 1080 can go where no Maxwell had gone before – to the territory of truly high clock rates and “2.0 Ghz out of the box”. This means that we are looking at a paradigm shift since the last generation, because even though from what we have seen, the clock for clock gain Pascal gives isn’t a lot, it more than makes up for it in terms of sheer clock rates. A liquid cooled GTX 1080 should easily be able to handle the 4K 60 fps standard for the vast majority of titles out there – not to mention would be the perfect card for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

 

TLDR : P100 has 10.6 TFLOPs of single precision performance and a GTX 1080 at 2.1 Ghz has 10.7 TFLOPs of single precision performance and at 2.5 Ghz the 1080 will have 12.8 TFLOPs

That's insane. But i suspect the gdd5X ( 10gb/s out of the box ) will be a bottleneck and only hbm2 will be capable of handling that efficiently . That , and no cpu will be capable of handling it outside of 4k

Those things are damn near indestructible, and some survived months or years at 2V (the LGA775 P4 that is-not Prescott either). also, I put 2V through one of my $7.50 E6500K to get it over 4.4GHz.

i'm guessing board partners that bother with watercooling will most likely bother with the BIOS as well

I think this might be a new paradigm: a card that's literally too fast for most users outside of extremely high end builds.

Pure speculation, the voltage needed to get to 2.5ghz will be considerably higher than stock and the 2100 they had at the event, and nobody knows how these chips react to increased voltage...its not just a case of giving the chip more power and voltage to clock them high, the chip will have ceiling on how much voltage it can handle and stay stable..

 

There will be a reason these cards have 1733mhz as there boost and not 2100mhz....i suspect only 50% will get to 2000 nevermind 2100....if not they would have been clocked higher from the get go.

... And why would you think that?

Saying as GDDR5 isn't a massive (if one at all) bottle neck, and GDDR5X is roughly 25% faster assuming no other changes are made to it's memory interface then It'll be the same (memory speed- performance) if the rumors are to be believed, It'll coincide perfectly with the performance of the 1080.

 

And if you're talking about Overclocking then you can Overclock the VRAM too.

Hopefully... Just assuming Nvidia's not pulling a Fury.

 The main limiting factor for the overclocking beyond 2.2 GHz is 225 Watts, which is how much the board can officially pull from the power circuitry: 75 Watts from the motherboard and 150 W through 8-pin PEG connector. However, there are power supply manufacturers which provide more juice per rail, and we’ve seen single 8-pin connector delivering 225 W on its own. Still, partners such as ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Galax, GigaByte, MSI are preparing custom boards with 2-3 8-pin connectors.
