will vr requirements be decreased?

Question is as the title says. As we all know currently the vr requirements are a bit too high for most of us. I've been wondering like when the mobile phones first came out, now it may be expensive and requires a lot from us but in 5 years or so, will the newer vr devices be optimized better?

I think over time we may see it become possible to do VR with more "mid level" hardware, but it will always require high framerates and high resolutions.  It's just that generating those will become cheaper over time as hardware improves (at least, so long as you are willing to let everyone else get a little ahead of you on graphics).

it'll only go up, not down

 

but im sure there will be low end games for lower end hardware to enjoy...

 

and current gen gtx 970 will be like mid-range card in the future and so-on anyway, so future low end hardware should be able to run VR

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Currently most games are very new so graphics are not the focus but seeing more games in the next year or two your 980s are going to cry.

Nope I doubt it, they are just going to go up. It is so important that the game maintain 90 fps that I can't see that ever decreasing, it will increase next generation of cards (due out in a couple of months) probably as games take advantage of progress. This is the way the industry works, hardware gets faster and we get games that use it. Why would the requirements ever go down when performance at the same price point is always increasing dramatically.

you are confusing two things, requirements and accessibility. Requirements will only continue to go up, but the price for them will probably drop faster so in the end it will be more accessible.

no, I'm dreaming about it because I'd have to sell a kidney or a testicle to be able to afford it. But the wonderful thing about technology is that it gets cheaper, so next year I might be able to afford it, I'd reckon the OP might have something along these lines in mind, or thinking about saving up for vr hardware, and wondering if they'd need a new gpu as well, or if their current hardware will be acceptable, which like others have said the spec requirements aren't going to suddenly drop, but the hardware that can run vr will get cheaper. And if I had the money for it I would get vr gear in a heartbeat, but I don't so I'll watch for the price to start dropping and keep an eye on vr in the meantime

Isn't Occulus demanding all future games licensed for it be able to run acceptably (e.g. 90 fps locked) on an R9 290 or GTX 970? That's probably going to be pretty midrange performance in this new generation of cards unless AMD and Nvidia really fucked up.
