Is it worth it to get a gtx 980 with Pascal coming out soon?

ImmyCakes

With Pascal coming out soon, I'm wondering if its worth saving some more money when pascal comes out or should I just get the 980? Most of my friends are just telling me to wait but I wanted your opinions on this.

If computers have no doors or fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

If you can get a good deal on a  980 and you want the performance now then go for it, I think.

Sig under construction.

if you are set on a 980, wait until pascal launches because the price will definitely drop on the 980

If you can at least power a display (whether with an old GPU or an iGPU), then I'd wait.

All current gpus are still at 28nm.  when Pascal and Polaris come in at 16nm, it will be no comparison between the 2.

If you really want 980 preformance now then yes. Go for it. However the 980 is not great value even now in comparison to slightly lower or higher specced cards from AMD and NVidia. For example the 970, 390 and 980ti. The fury is also very competitive compared to the 980. Either get one of them (or somthing similar) or wait. The new cards are coming very soon!

And that the fury beats a 980 at dx11 for the same price..

Is there some source for performance GPUs(Pascal andPolaris) dropping this summer?  I have not seen them.  I don't think Pascal X60/X70/X80/X80Ti will be here till 2017.  I don't know about AMD, but summer seems really optimistic.

Oh my dude, I get it, you are trying to sell your 690 so you gotta bash and hate the 980.

- They trade blows ( Fury and 980 )

- They are NOT the same price

To the OP, dont buy either card ( Fury or 980 ), 4gb vram doesn't really cut it anymore, don't invest that amount of money for something that is already being a "minimun" for ultra textures, wait up and make a smart purchase, specially with the new cards around the "corner" (2~5 months).
