George Hotz (Geohot) to Eliminate Capitalism by Replacing Low Wage Jobs with AI

SirAhmix

George Hotz took this year's SXSW conference as an opportunity to announce his new company, comma.ai, and briefly discuss his plans for replacing many jobs with AI. He plans to start by "eliminating all jobs in the global transportation sector" and replacing them with self driving cars. While most would think this is impossible, considering the cost of self driving cars and AI, Hotz states that his self-driving tech will ship for no more than $1000 and in it's current state, will work on any car made in or after 2012. Once the driving jobs are gone, he plans to go on to "the cashiers, the secretaries, the salespeople, those people [that] are easy to replace with AI" and, as The Verge states, "moving up the chain until the only people left with jobs are programmers. And then... the singularity, of course."

Video of Hotz's Self-Driving Car

Personally, I can't really say I hope this comes to light. Self driving cars, sure. Eliminating all low paying jobs and replacing them with AI, let's hope not. As it currently stands, I myself am a part time sales associate at Walmart and I really need that relatively small check to help me pay for college and I'm pretty sure a lot of people will agree with that. Who knows, maybe I misread the article. What do you guys think about this? Do you think he can actually eliminate Capitalism and the millions of jobs that it creates?

You don't need a government if you have an AI that can replace it, a truly perfect world it would be

Exactly. Unfortunately governments won't be replaced by AI :(

And how does he plan to replace programming as per the post? It's a non ending cycle, you replace the programmer with a program that is programmed by another programmer. Maybe have self maintaining coding AI? That will be very hard!

I know he's referring to human progress, but this change is too drastic in a sense that it would cause too much of a backlash on the economic sectors of society. Works of society are meant to be slow for a reason;; so that everyone can adapt.

(Although I do say that some things aren't adapting fast enough and need to be removed, like old legacy server hardware)

Yes, because having a cold-hearted computer program in charge of such things as nuclear weapons is truly better than what we are currently dealing with. /s

Or allowed to pull the trigger on a victim that is under shock and freaking out? It's a pretty crappy system. Not to mention no one in that universe has any type of thinking skills " Detective skills ?! " WTF ARE THOSE ?! DETECTIVE SKILLS ARE USELESS THE GUN SAYS WHEN TO FIRE !!!

Well, it's not like the law is exactly perfect either (depending on where you live though)...

not, that bit, i mean how the government is handle by an advance AI (i'd remove the human brains and make it completely artificial), settings up what basically is a perfect socialist community, where everyone, living under Sybil, can basically live happy (i'd also remove the checks based on mental status)

You mean technically incompetent silo operators using outdated hardware? I swear the silos still use 5 1/2 floppy drives that cannot even hold a copy of Oregon Trail... I have yet to see a silo with Win XP running in its systems, or a similar Linux equivalent.

As cold hearted AI is, waiting around to press the red button at a moment's notice is the easiest thing for a computer to do.

#include<stdio.h>

int
main (void){
int boom, US, USSR, Nuke;

do{
printf("If nukes land on US soil, type '1'\n");
scanf(" %d", &USSR);
}while(USSR != 1);

if(boom=1){

printf("Fire NUKE \n");
	printf("WW3 begins");
}
else{
printf("Welcome to Hell\n");
printf("Fallout 3 begins \n");
}
return(0);
}

Please correct code if possible, I still suck at C.

While I am vehemently against Capitalism, removing peoples jobs isn't the way to go about it.

This won't stop the rich from wanting to charge for goods and services, it will only result in 99% of the population not being able to afford anything.

Finally! I can't wait to see this project come to completion. Humans should not have to do something that an ai can do. By removing these lame and boring jobs we (programmers) are doing humanity a service.

once we go past (or close) the singularity of AI, AI would fix this problem.

I'm just baffled as to why anyone would ever want this to come to light. What would be the purpose of existing? Isn't life supposed to be the combination of our choices and experiences? We would essentially becomes slaves to the AI and then cease to exist when the AI realizes that we serve no purpose to it.

I refuse to believe that there's no other point to life than to accept extinction. Inevitable? Possibly. Why expedite the process?
