Lots of military and government computers run XP, it's not just the UK.

Windows XP runs on lots of other military applications for a few other countries, including US Navy aircraft carriers.

That said, I think the US cut a deal with MS to get special security updates for XP specifically for the military while the UK did not.

Wonder how difficult it would be for Microsoft to fork and develop XP derivitives with updated security for these types of systems? I'm pretty sure the US already cut some kind of deal for security updates at a several million dollar cost.

Just because it runs off XP doesn't mean it is unsecured or hackable. It probably aslo runs on XP embedded or POS ready which are still having updates given to them.

I have something of not really a secret surprise for you. The US military does work on it own updates for the XP OS internally.

 

The reason Navy ships do not update is that the software that runs the ships internal mechanics are very expensive to replace or rewrite. There is no real need to update the OS.

Also most of the terminals for satcom are win 98 and NT. Which is probably older than 87% of the people on here.

On board a sub it doesn't matter if the OS is no longer getting updates, after all it's not connected to the internet.

Subs and other navy ships are connected but not directly. The navy (USA) still uses it own internet that is connected to the Web via special firewall servers such as  SATCOM and other systems.

No, the Army doesn't have the same restrictions the AirForce and Navy have due to the equipment used. I cant really say specifically due to confidential so so's.

This is one way of preventing Microsoft from automatically upgrading your computers so in other words just move to North Korean to people who don't want Windows 10.
