pc isn't detecting all 32gb of ram

so i replaced my ram recently with 32 gb of avexir ram but i just noticed its only detecting 16gb out of the 32 installed and it is installed the correct slots. anyone have any ideas of why this is happening?

make sure all the dimms are pushed in properly

they need to snap into place themselves without you touching the clips

are they staggered?

 

like 0/1/0/1   CPU 0/1/0/1 ?

make sure all the dimms are pushed in properly

they need to snap into place themselves without you touching the clips

slight correction: they dont "need" to, thats just how you're sure.

 

i work with a lot of worn out, old components, and on some of them you can pretty much push with all the force of the world, the clips arent snapping like they're supposed to.

a small "aid' push on the clips helps tho.

they are put in 0/1/1/0 cpu 0/1/1/0 just as my motherboard says they should be

i believe they are because there are led on the ram and they are lighting up (not sure if thats an indication or not)

yes its for the iv black edition. also i check the bois and it detects all of the ram together but only says 16gb and it detects all of them separately at 8 gbs each so i am really confused

then try updating the BIOS

 

could be incompatible RAM if they are not under the QVL

I had a similar thing happen when I upgraded the ram in my desktop. It supports 32GB 4x8GB, but it was only actually mapping 24GB of the full 32GB. Both the bios, and the OS could see there were four DIMMs, but only saw 24GB useable.

 

I seem to recall it was some ram setting, or swapping the order of the DIMMS (why? I don't know, but i do technically have two mis-matched sets, 1600 and 1866) I can't remember for sure now what actually got it working, but memory controllers can be rather finicky.

 

edit: now that I think about it, it was probably that i misread the unclear directions of which slots are pairs, once I had the matched sets in the right slot pairs, then it worked.

so i swapped it to different slots and it now says 32 gb even though it was detecting the ram in the other slots weird. now i just have to figure out why its running at 1600 in staid of 1886
