You can't really be that picky at this price point. The best value would be if you bought used, and an amd gpu and cpu, with whatever cheapest decent motherboard you can find

there's plenty of other brands and AMD stuff that supports Win 11,

what's your friend worried about recent AMD wouldn't support?

Asus isn't any better than other brands in terms of wifi and windows support, it's actually pretty hard to make a gaming pc that doesn't support it, because it would have to be intel 7th gen cpu or older

That's not really guaranteed with any hardware, but an am4 cpu will be more than enough

A brand new decent build of either Intel or AMD would yield in approx 410-430$ leaving 70-80$ for a GPU which would most likely have to come from second-hand market.

But it depends.

What's budget? Is running League of Legends enough?

Should it run more demanding games like CS2? R6 Siege?

Even more demanding AAA on low settings?

Cyberpunk 2077?

you don't need any experience with amd , they're both x86s cpus that process the same code. picking one based on brand alone while disregarding costs and speed is quite an odd choice.

that is assuming you don't need any peripherals IE monitor, mouse, keyboard

it's important to know because these could cut the budget of the actual PC by 100$ or more

yes

Then your best bet is to buy a used dell optiplex (or any other cheap pc), and put a gpu in it, or try and find an already build cheap gaming pc, as well as buying the monitor used too

Edge case is a 5600G build, that barely makes it:

  • Basically you'd get cheap "gaming" keyboard and mouse
  • 1080p or 900p monitor something that doesn't look entirely crappy I guess
  • 5600G is a decent bet, it has iGPU that performs similarly to GTX 750 or GTX 1050 depending on game
  • The build uses one of the cheapest cases possible, but any case that fits components will do
  • 500GB of storage, not much but at least it's M.2

  • You might find much faster potential builds on used-market overall, or certain components maybe, there could be a chance someone getting rid of like a 500$ worth PC and selling it for like those 350-400$ ish price
  • I'd count the peripheral price first and then see what could be bought with the remaining money otherwise how are you going to play on a PC with no monitor or keyboard right?
  • From personal experience, you don't need a mechanical keyboard, as long as it's gaming keyboard membrane are fine keyboards, they can be bit quieter sometimes too if they're not too cheaply made, the reason you want gaming keyboard is because of anti-ghosting feature, that makes sure you can press multiple keys and getting it through, keyboards that don't have it either can't press multiple keys or press them after the first ones are released which is annoying
