2015 Steam Winter sale bigger than Summer sale, 46M games sold

Techicolors

Note that the data collected is from steamspy.com, so it isn't wholly accurate.

At least 46 million copies of games found their new owners during Steam Winter Sale. And it only includes those games that sold over 1,000 copies, as smaller changes are barely detectable by Steam Spy. That’s 50% more compared to Steam Summer Sale.

If we assume that all of those games were sold on Steam (it’s probably not the case because of bundles and third-party stores) and account for regional pricing, we can conclude that Steam Winter Sale brought at least $270M in revenue.

That’s almost twice as much as Steam Summer Sale did.

One of the reasons here is that both Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V were discounted (unlike the last time, when GTA V was force-bundled and then “discounted” to $59.99). Fallout 4 and GTA V are the biggest games on Steam this year in terms of revenue, so both obviously helped.

  1. With 46M games sold and $270M in revenue Steam Winter Sale was bigger than Summer Sale.
  2. People are actually playing more during Winter Sale. Probably the games they’ve bought on it.
  3. The most popular discounts are 75% and 50% off. The most lucrative are 75%, 66% and 50% off.

Could also be a case of when people have more free time, or when they want to spend said time inside on a PC

Personally, I bought a Steam Controller. I also bought Shadow of Mordor GOTY for $7 on sale.

...and my gaming PC doesn't have an OS yet because my USB Stick decided to start having errors last minute.

...so now I'm buying a USB Stick too...

...but I saved over $100 on my actual build's parts so it balances out, right??

I spent next to nothing, Steam sales have gotten worse and worse in recent sales. And GTA V doesn't interest me even if it was 90% off.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I didn't spend a whole lot. Bought a bunch of indies. My library is getting pretty huge, I pretty much have all the good games that ever go on sale. And on the featured items list, they all say "in library"

It's obvious that people buy most during holiday seasons be it extra cash, work bonus, cancelled vacation plans, gifting purposes or self indulgence.

No shit sherlock, the summer months are months where people are on vacation and have a shit ton to do.

In the winter months, people are hiding in their homes behind their PC and or smartphones.

Sales this year were so bad. Only reason they sold more Is cause of more people

Worse "deals" I've seen in a steam sale

They were pathetic deals.

This should not come as any surprise. People tend to spend money on vacation and travel during summer, while they spend xmas money/gifts on games during winter. Simple market dynamics based on season.

Why do we do this to ourselves? ._.

I don't see all games going for 90% off, the more games you have the less you buy so I don't see why this season sales were bad, it's always like that.

Did you expect FO4 at 80% off or something?

The stars died for you to be here today.
