That's not good... if it makes a bad first impression on a large number of people all a once, (justified or not) that could be hard for them to repair...

I believe that the announcement was a bit rushed.

I think we should rename this thread to "Netflix launches in 130 countries (minus China)" so as to make this thread more general (and we can discuss about our regional differences, nuances easily).

 

Was testing it here in the Philippines using my internet connection (PLDT), and I'm happy to say that a 5 Mbps connection can allow you to watch Netflix in HD. Although you shouldn't have anything else web related running, so no social media, etc. or the stream quality will drop like a bomb. For the most part though, normal copper DSL and Fibre (Fibre is limited though to affluent areas in the capital) internet in the Philippines is "unlimited". I put it in quotation marks because apparently there is a limit. Onto mobile though, and things like cable, there are limits, and the connection is spotty as heck (mostly related to where the tower is and how many people are using it).

i VPN'd Netflix to the UK and Canada, I must say that you guys really have some nice movie selections. I dont know what all the fuss is about. 

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

Cool. Signed up for the free trial yesterday but i'm most likely going to cancel it once it ends. The selection is just too small right now and i don't expect it to get any larger anytime soon. It's also missing local subtitles so recommending it to my parents is a no-no.

This is a consequence of the MPAA and other Hollywood entities being paranoid about piracy (my opinion).  Reed Hastings talked about this in more detail toward the end of the Netflix keynote Q&A.  The goal with Netflix Originals is to eliminate this antiquated business model.  Since Netflix and Amazon hold the rights to their respective IPs, they can release an American-oriented series or movie everywhere.  Hopefully, Netflix and Amazon's success will force big-budget studios to ease up on regional restrictions.

Even if it does, the selection of shows is terrible compared to netflix. No one should buy prime for the video/music. Buy it for prime shipping, and consider the other services as a nice bonus.

I have both and when I see a new movies or TV come out on one it comes out on the other except exclusives or made by them. They are really identical. I think prime is better though because you get all those movies and TV shows, free shipping, free cloud storage, free music streaming, free photo sharing, and much more

nope i have amazon prime in Germany but it only works there not in south america were i live.

I have both and when I see a new movies or TV come out on one it comes out on the other except exclusives or made by them. They are really identical. I think prime is better though because you get all those movies and TV shows, free shipping, free cloud storage, free music streaming, free photo sharing, and much more

It really isn't the same. I have prime too and only ever used it for like 2 shows and a couple movies. Netflix selection is FAAR better. A lot of times I also see an interesting video on prime but it's not included you still have to buy / rent it.

Very true but both have boat loads or horrible cheesy movies.
