PLEASE HELP SODA ON PC NIGHTMARE

So i accidentally spilled some soda on my stationary pc. The soda fell on top of my pc trough the mesh filter. Not much fell into the actual pc, but it immediatly turned off the screen and went black. The fans speed up instantly and i got worried for a shortage so i pulled the plug... Now i am wondering what the best solution i have for maybe recovering my computer. I have wiped away some of the soda, but i don't like have an eagle eye... Please anybody help. If i basically shower it and leave it to dry for a couple of weeks, will it work? Like seriously i have little to none of hope for this computer but i can't really afford a new one right now.

Well,I suggest posting some pics of it.Other than that,take off both the sidepanels and make some fans blow on em maybe pull it apart and submerged it to some rice,but as you said thje screwen turned off I think you are doomed.

Try to find the components effected, and wipe them with rubbing alcohol and let them dry. 

Make sure exposed contacts do not have residue on them. Also, keep all liquids away from mechanical hard drives.

Isopropyl bath might help if you didn't kill anything up to this point. Point is, you might have.

Let it sit for awhile, maybe it got on the GPU possibly so you can try with that. You can be sure the HDD/SSD. Your CPU may be fine unless it got shorted out. Ram could possibly be fiine. When it doubt it is mostly your Mobo, GPU, and possibly PSU though lets assume so far only your GPU got hit.

I think it's dead, as said above try to leave it in a bunch of rice so it absorbs the moisture.

Only thing i hope that the toxic things in the soda didn't corrode the sh*t out of it...

Just take it apart, inspect for damage, let it dry out and use rubbing alcohol to get the left over soda out. let it dry a few days, put it back together, plug it in, press power and pray

Wow if it was water you might have a chance but the sugar in pop reacts with the circuit boards and even though it might work for a week or two it is going to fail. You might have to salvage the parts not affected

Rice is NOT considered the best stuff to dry things out anymore.

Don't rush things. Let your components dry properly. As for washing off the soda with water, I'd personally recommend the alcohol variant rather than that, but your mileage may vary. I'd also advise disassembling the machine for cleaning and drying, as has been mentioned by others.

As a side note: I would highly recommend disconnecting your storage from that machine when you power it up again. I once had a burnt-out SATA controller kill all drives connected to it. Just my two cents from personal experience.

Basically, yeah. What I'd personally probably do is try to clean off as much of the soda as I can with alcohol (for things which don't have a battery such as GPUs, you could probably also use water to be honest, but for the motherboard I think I'd stick with alcohol unless you take out the battery, although I'm not actually sure how conductive or non-conductive that is, maybe it doesn't even matter, can't say for certain), then let the stuff dry for about a day, depending on air humidity. Keep in mind though that this isn't exactly a hard science. Best of luck!

well you seem like a smart person, so most of the liquid fell directly on top of the gpu, which had no protection of sorts. Thats probaly why my computer instantly blacket out, but what do you think?

That was probably it, if you're lucky maybe the GPU is recoverable but the first thing you should remember is that you shouldn't rush. Your pc might/most likely still has life. Personally i'd take your gpu apart carefully, and clean it with alcohol and place the PCB into a bag of rice for a few days. Do the same with your motherboard, taking the CPU out and taking the VRM heatsinks etc. off if you can. I'd also try to remove the heat spreaders from your RAM. Place everything inside the bag of rice, let it sit for a week if you can wait that long. If your PSU fan faces down, it's probably fine. But if the fan faces up I would let it sit for a day and then try to power it on, shorting out the two specific cables on the 24-pin connector. 

But this is being SUPER SAFE, if you can't see any visible spills right now then I'd just let it air dry for a couple of days

That sounds plausible, yes. But as mentioned, this isn't exactly hard science, and diagnosing over the internet has a considerable margin of error. If you have an alternate GPU or internal graphics available, testing the motherboard, CPU and RAM with that would not be the silliest of ideas IMHO (after having cleaned and dried them, of course).

Also worth considering is that if the motherboard, CPU and RAM are fine, whether or not the GPU might be defective and could damage the remaining components. Of course, without testing the GPU you can't know whether that still works, so it's a bit of a Catch-22. But I thought I'd mention it.

I will try this and i will also try to look for any spillage at all and clean that up. Thanks and i will let you guys know how it all goes in a day or two. (Just opened up my gpu, and it was quite alot of coke spillage in it. Cleaned up now though and all that stuff.)
