You are not supposed to look at it.

It's meant for compact small form factor systems, which have no windows (just a very tiny box).

This was first showcased on their Bulldog prototype, which was an example of where does this cooler shines the most.

But I wonder how much more effective it is then a normal low profile cooler from the likes of noctua. This cooler is more expensive and is still bulkier

It is meant for builds that are smaller in size, where you normally don't have the luxury of water cooling, and being smaller the air flow will also suck. Last time I checked the noctua you mentioned isn't really as small can can't fit in those "box" shaped cases.

 

edit: Ah, you probably meant the air cooling solution of Noctua. I'll take a wild guess and say this would perform better than air in those small cases.

Yeah you won't fit a full tower cooler. But one of the usual advantages of water coolers is you move the heat away from the components. The performance compaired to normal tower coolers isn't isn't always amazing. 

And although an air cooler would be severly gimped in such a small case, so is this water cooler. But we'll have to wait and see how it really performes

Yes of course, everything cooling related will be tested in a smaller case and usually under-perform. It's just the airflow being much worse than say, a typical AXT case. Without actually knowing how good this can perform, I think the fact that it uses water coupled with the fact that it appears to be drawing clean air from the side (and not from inside the case itself) will make it a better solution than a typical low profile cooler. Only time (and testing!) will tell, best we can do is take a guess :P

I'd love to see @LinusTech use this to cool a 14 core xeon in a super tiny pc with an r9 nano and see if it can hold off thermal throttling

It exhausts the heat from the case, so it should be easier to prevent accumulation of heat in the case.

I'm skeptical of it's performance. Probably wouldn't want to run a heavily overclocked i7 with this. Low profile air coolers would probably be better/more practical as at least with an air cooler you can still see and work on the motherboard if need be.

 

Interesting concept, none-the-less. I think this is the cooler they used when they debuted the new Bulldog mITX chassis a while back.

Tru dat, yet I've seen almost no windowed ITX rigs: Only the Evolv mini itx and the EVGA case feature like a prominent window. This would work great to water cool something like the Raven RVZ01 and 02.

It may not be what everyone is expecting, but this would be awesome for servers in 2U cases. It's near impossible to find a low profile cooler that exhausts out the back and the fact that this is liquid cooled is just icing on the cake. Provided that they are reasonably priced, I want like 7 of them.
