Best resolution to post youtube videos in?

Croum

I'm currently making a YouTube intro and outro for my channel, but I need to know what resolution is better for me to post my videos in? 1080i or 720p? I have heard many people say 1080i is worse quality and takes more time to render and upload, whilst 720p is like the god of all resolutions. I'm not sure what one to choose, and please don't say 'find out for yourself', because I need to know in order to make my intros and outros. Is one better at one thing than the other? Or should I stick with 1080i?

Dont render in any "i" resolutions. It will interlace very other frame making movement look like garbage.

Just use 720p if your rendering hardware isnt good enough for 1080p or above.

Rendering in 1440p can be nice, as YouTube will allow for a higher bit-rate, therefore making it look a bit better, even if the source content is only 1080p, but it will take much longer, to both render, and upload.

720p most people don't watch above that, also screw 1080i it really looks worse

Is this really true? I've never met a single person who doesn't either leave YT on 'Auto' so their broadband decides, or clicks whatever resolutions is the highest.

Most people have meh internet (at least in the us) so they don't want to buffer for 5x the vid length,  also I can watch 4K without buffer but the auto selects 720p for what ever reason so the auto actually tends to use 720 for whatever reason even when higher is present.

Ok, by most people you mean your own countryfolk.

Since the internet is international, when people say "most people" they either refer to the entire world - or assume most people are American.

I assume america produces the most youtube traffic when compared to other nations, as for the most people have meh internet, that simply means they have below 10mbps down which is not uncommon in the US and many other countries as well, but I can only speak for the US because I only know the US well. Also as you said most people select auto which in turn usually selects 720 (why idk) regardless.

Auto selects 1080 for me :) I guess it's just like you say, shitty infrastructures vs proper broadband. Over here in Sweden it's not really that common to find people below 10mbit. 10mbit is commonly the lowest sold broadband speed by most ISPs. We even have ISPs that sell 50+ as their lowest broadband speed.

find out for yourse.. Oh wait.

Just make it at 1080p or even 4K and downscale the intro everytime you import the intro and outro to your project. Like I assume you will sometimes work on a 720p video, sometimes 1080p maybe.. So you can always use the same file.

Pro tip: if you make it 60fps, you should render all your videos you use it in to 60fps too or it will look weird

720p is enough for small channels, when you start to grow though you should really have 1080p available, don't bother with anything above 1080p as of now it's not worth the upload time.

Please, for the love of GabeN, never render videos at any "i" resolution, it may work for static pictures but it just doesn't work when objects are moving.

1080p 30fps or 720p 60fps min. 1440 and 4k are too much at this point. 60fps is a lot nicer than having it in 1440. 60fps stands out.

so render videos at 1080p?

Yes, any interlaced resolution will look like crap if there's something moving.
