Is it normal that I'm losing interest in gaming as I grow up?!?

Another factor for me has definitely been the samey-ness of gaming these days.

Perhaps this is affecting you too?

Diablo 3 has no hope of living up to my nostalgic memories of D1.

I honestly do think that that's what impacting me right now, I try to go back to some really old games, and see how it is, and I sit there playing for 4 hours straight and not feeling the time pass.

Crazy how games are so dull now.

Another factor that I think has a big impact too is making memories playing these games.

Yup, it's normal, I also spend quite some time watching youtube videos about electronics, DIY stuff and things like those.

Things would be different if I had 2 o more monitors, you will never give up on games though.

Okay, I'm scared, I've almost completely lost interest in gaming, the only thing that I play now is Garry's mod surfing, well I bearly even play that.... I'm currently a college student.. And all of what I do is just watch YouTube videos about electronics, DIY things and chemical reactions..

You're completely normal & I have been feeling the same way for about the past year. I used to have nothing but an urge for competitive multiplayer gaming. I'm in a similar boat as you going to college & working full time. Gaming was such a big part of my past & feel a void in my life now (nerdy I know), but anything you did for multiple hours a day & then stop doing it will have an impact on your life. 

 

I do contribute some things to game developers. Games not coming out that peak my interest or multiplayer games that are dumbed down to a casual level. But ultimately at the end of the day I feel my interests are changing. I'm more interested in reading a new book than I am about hopping on a video game now days & that really says something because I have never enjoyed reading books before in my life....and I felt an urge of excitement when I bought a new coffee grinder the other day.

 

I can't speak for you personally & I do still have an interest in gaming, but I feel in my case I may just be getting old. I'm way more interested in other things now than I was gaming. Another contributing factor in my case is I may have burned myself out. I played games for hours and hours almost daily for many years of my life, maybe its caught up to me. Now days I would rather read a book, work on my car, or work on my college studies than anything else.

I do understand priorities, but I've lost the interest in games, there's nothing that can grab my attention anymore, most games are the same now

Totally agree with that. Most multiplayer games now annoy me as they are just the same style being repeated, and repeated badly! The games are developed too quickly at a stupid price - just puts me off!

I tend to go back to games like PayDay2, or single player on FarCry (LOVE that series).

Burnout has nothing to do with aging or maturity. If anyone spends too much time on only one form of entertainment, they'll burn out on it. Find some other interests and diversify.

 

I was getting really sick of gaming, then I found anime and obsessed on it for 3-4 months and magically I had 'fixed' my gaming burnout.

 

Also, taking a break from gaming won't help if you're not finding something to replace it with.

Hmmmm interesting. At a time when I think about specs as being almost meaningless. And yes I'm feeling exactly like this (both with computers and gaming (my main interests)

 

However my interest in programming is still very high compared to my interest in gaming.

 

It's normal. I used to do nothing but game.

Now I run a business, I have a wife, I have kids...

I still enjoy games and I make time for it when I can, but it happens in smaller doses because I just can't afford to spend 3 hours at a time grinding dungeons in Torchlight or whatever anymore.

Anything I can do to fix this lack of interest (i do have plenty of time but I'm just not motivated to game like I used and only Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed or GTA V is really what I am motivated to play (well arguably in all you of these games you do have to grind a fair bit but with AC i actually love the story lines of their games and actually want to play more, out of  curiosity of what will happen next in the plot line.

Unfortunately this is life, our generations have been fed like a drug, constant stimuli and interaction...needing more and more. Sooner or later though just like a drug in real life, it no longer provides the level of stimuli it once did. Perhaps you need to change the genre of video game, videos you watch or articles you read.

I've only recently gotten back into tech related stuff since graduating school. My last couple of years at school were so focused on that, I didn't have much time for anything else. Now that I have a full time job and weekends free, I feel like I have much more time to do research on computers and my other hobbies. Not having to worry about work outside of work has been the biggest thing for me.

Totally normal, my interests waxes and wanes depending on on how busy I am right now because I'm unemployed and not in school I play a lor more games, which is a nice break, but I'm an adult and I live on my own and have to pay rent.

I use to play only video games but now have leaned towards linux, coding, internet in fracture. But I still play games though, mostly single player too as my internet is bad and my friends only play CSGO.

I generally lose interest in a few games I play frequently. Then I go back to some games I haven't played in a long time. And the cycle continues.

 

Happened a lot with Gmod, CS:GO and TF2. I played a lot of TF2 at one point, got sick of it and moved to Gmod. Got sick of that and went over to CS:GO. Now I am sick of that and going back to TF2.

 

Also, if you find some close friends to play games with you it makes it a lot more enjoyable, even if you're sick of the game. Just having friends to play and chill with makes any game way better.

 

 

And then there's a few games that you just completely lose interest in, and you never touch them for a very long time.

 

I found CS:GO's updates to really grind my gears because they seemed to have changed something drastically and ruin my playstyle or hinder my performance in game to the point where I just get pissed off because of the nerfs and reg updates (which do nothing but make the reg even more broken than it was in the first place).

 

So I decided to play TF2. A game that Valve didn't give a shit about anymore and that's why I play it frequently right now. They do updates to it now, but nothing completely game breaking for me at least like they did with CS:GO.

 

As for Gmod, I got banned from 2many servers and all the servers I actually had fun and played on ended up shutting down for whatever reason (Skids DDoSing, Owner shutting it down for whatever reason, Admin inactivity leading to server anarchy). And the last one happened a few times. It came to a point on a DarkRP server where there was no admins on for weeks. People ended up literally creating giant factions and shit to try and take over the city and enforce their own rules upon the server. It was crazy shit. Basically whoever had the biggest, most skilled army and the most cash would end up ruling and taking over the server because anyone who refused to follow their shit would get destroyed.

 

In source games (a good example) try looking for different custom gamemodes. Surfing, Bhop and Jailbreak are just a few common examples. I found myself getting hooked on a different mod/gamemode for source games pretty often.

I feel you, I've not been able to get into a game in forever.
I still love looking at hardware, and thinking of builds I can't afford..
But now I work six days a week, and just don't have time to play like I used to..
It may be exhaustion or cynicism but games lately have been largely unappealing..
The Witcher 3 has pretty much saved my love of gaming, today I finished the dlc and loved every minute of it.

Prior to this game I'd play something for fifteen mins, hop off and watch youtube videos instead
