About ten days ago the popular movie torrent group YIFY's website stopped working. Today it has been confirmed that YIFY/YTS has been shut down permanently. There will be no more new, official YIFY torrents, so if you see any from now on, be careful about what you're downloading. Throughout all of this, YIFY has remained relatively silent, and hopefully they will speak out soon. YIFY has been around for more than a decade, and the sudden shut down comes as a surprise to myself and millions of others. I personally did not see this coming any time soon.

I can probably guess which group of geoblocking assholes are behind this-though to be blunt, I only used YIFY to download non gimped digital copies (ultraviolet digital copies suck, the on disc digital copies are far better if you can get them).

Sad day for piracy.  But there's plenty more uploaders they're going to have to shutdown before piracy stops.

This is interesting because recently if you went on TPB and looked at HD movies sorted by seeders the entire first page is YIFY.

well old files are still in circulation

new ones won't pop up

Give it a few months people are going to be seeding newer movies, inevitably from other uploaders and stop seeding older movies

i mean YIFI files

You didn't read properly. The whole first page of HD movies SORTED BY SEEDERS has been YIFY for a while. Now that there won't be any new torrents from him it will be interesting to see what torrents will be there.

Well, the only thing i used YIFY torrents for was that when I saw a YIFY torrent on the front page of Kickass I knew the Blu-ray was out, or leaked, so there would be a proper torrent somwhere already or very soon :P
I might have tried a YIFY torrent once, and also I tried PopcornTime once, so I guess that's two.

I don't know what you're talking about. Yea they weren't a straight 5.1 blu-ray rip, but the quality for the file size is amazing. Great for watching on laptops, phones, and tablets. Works for desktops too.

Sure, but they were not HD rips. They might have a forced resolution of 720p for instance, but the bandwidth was so low, the practical resolution was SD. They should have posted them as SD rips instead, so it wouldn't spam the HD sections, where people are looking for quality.
