Microsoft Desperate For Microsoft Edge Users

Bloodyvalley

microsoft-edge-logo-so-sieht-das-logo-de

They have been implementing 'ads':

Capture2.jpg

That prompt can be seen in build 10568 of Windows 10, a newly leaked version of W10

'If your hands are currently using Windows 10’s Edge Browser and you want to switch your default to another browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, the aforesaid prompt will appear. The prompt does not solely contains the message, but advertises new additives in the Edge Broswer.'

Source

Personally, I wouldn't trade Firefox for anything. The amount of themes and add-ons are unbeatable. That, and I've been using it since forever.

Pay me and i'll use it. Otherwise, there's nothing there to make me want to switch.

I use it as my secondary email browser, so I wouldn't have to log out in my main browser every time I want to check it :)

It lacks important features so it's unusable. Microsoft need to fix that first and then tell users to "Give Edge a chance".

I can't even set it as default.

I like how there isn't a Opera option to vote, which someone could say just vote Chrome then, but then there's a "Firefox Variant" option lol.

I don't use it because of 2 reasons.

First is that it lacks a lot of usability features, its very barebones but the second and most important one is the lack of extension, the second i can have the extensions i use on Edge ill see if it can be a good replacement for Opera.

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

i use to have the second best link in the world here, but it died ;_; its a 404 now but it will always be here

No safari xD I doubt anyone on LTT solely uses it anyways.

Does Edge allow me to view tabs that are open on another device? I have 4 devices signed in to chrome and I'm always opening stuff on one and viewing it later on another. Also doesn't Edge use more ram then chrome? I remember seeing some jokes about that but I don't know if they are true or not.

I like Opera though. And I wanted Edge to be fully done on release, not sure why they released it without things people want.
So consider to switch to Edge? Maybe in future.

I tried Edge for a good 5 minutes.... Then I saw it didn't support extensions and gave up on it.

Edge has NOTHING to win me over.

If they would fix Edge I would use it more. Currently I just use it to check my mail and to watch Vessel, chrome is for the rest.

However, Edge manages to create a 10GB cache size in just 1 week of usage.....

I like my cache, but I don't like it to be huge and not self resizing........

Please include Chrome variant in the poll.

And Microsoft can't seriously expect to change everybody's minds after decades long of neglecting IE. More over, nowadays they have to compete with casual users which just use whatever's on their phone: Chrome or Safari.

I use:

  • Chrome - daily driver
  • WaterFox
  • Internet Explorer
not everything works in Chrome, not everything works in Firefox and it's variants, but everything works in IE

as for Spartan Edge .. it has issues - I found a couple of pages that Edge doesn't even want to deal with, it just closes  ^_^

I'll use Edge when it's compatible with all of my school stuff, which is more of the curriculum needing to be made compatible and not the reverse.

I tried Edge with an open mind, but I kept bumping in to stuff that couldn't be shown on Edge because of compatibility crap, and it kept suggesting i open in IExplorer instead.

To me that felt like this was their message to the world.

"This new crap we're pushing isn't even better than the old crap that we've been failing at for the past 10 years."

The moment Edge supports extensions, I am switching. The other web browsers have nothing over Edge at this point (I mean after they put extensions), and Edge support multi-touch, has smooth scrolling and zooming, features still missing on Firefox and Chrome despite being in 2015. Firefox JUST got high DPI support, after how many years it took them, and have a high-DPI version of Firefox already on MacOS since Retina display was introduced (and they were really fast to implement it).

It's probably because you use web site with Java or Silverlight. Edge supports no plug-ins. Firefox and Chrome will joining this in a few years. Both says (like Edge web browser) they'll keep Flash support exclusively, but no more plug-ins.

From my understanding, tabs, bookmarks, (and I guess extension when it will come), will be sync between your devices that runs Edge (so Windows 10 device and Windows 10 Mobile)
