Do you prefer Nvidia or AMD?

Morman

This makes me question what kind of features that the NVidia drivers offer that the AMD ones don't. The only things I know off the top of my head are adaptive sync, and some kind of AO/tesselation support for older games where you can have nicer shadows in stuff like RCT3.

I personally will keep my AMD card because of the way the market is going and what they seem like they can achieve. Also, having 2560x1440 on a 1080p monitor makes my games look a lot better.

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

Spoiler

Intel i7-4790k undervolt, NVidia EVGA GTX 980Ti SC Reference, NVidia EVGA GTX 480 SC Reference, ASUS Z97-A/USB3.1, SK Hynix SL308 240GB, WD Green 2TB, Hynix 1333 8GB (4x2), XFX Core Pro 850w, NH-U12S, 4x NF-F12's, Sennheiser HD 558's, Blue Yeti, Corsair K70 (red), Logitech MX Master, XBox One Controller, ASUS VG248QE 144Hz, HP 2010i

Which company? I prefer AMD slightly... I don't share the same bogus loyalty to them that so many seem to; I know they're just a corporation that wants your money... no idea why a bunch of people seem to think AMD cares about you or being the good guy. Right now I'd recommend Nvidia products over AMD's because their software is a bit better, but I prefer AMD's technology advancements and the non-proprietary formula, even if it isn't exactly by choice.

I like nVidia's drivers more and in the past I've had more problems with AMD cards than nVidia. Plus, nVidia is faster than AMD 9/10 in overall benchmarks. Like when I was looking at R9 Fury X or GTX 980 Ti, I picked 980 Ti. Why? Because the GPU had 2GB more of Vram than the Fury X. Also since you can't really OC the Fury X I jumped the gun and bought a MSi GTX 980 Ti Lightning card that spanks the R9 Fury X and even the Titan X at stock speed tests, even at OC the Lightning spanks everything and trades blows with the Kingpin EVGA 980 Ti. AMD = PC version of aids. nVidia = PC version of cure for aids (aka AMD).

Having a preference in a brand is kinda dumb. Everyone should buy the card that gives him/her the the most performance, in the games that he/she plays, at the budget that he/she has.

nVidia. AMD can't touch nVidia's top cards. nVidia has more to offer me and therefore much more appealing.

I'll tell ya what though, if I ever need to cook a steak in my computer, I know where to go. :P

How about, I like the specific card that offers the performance I need at a competitive price? Last time around it was an r9 290. Maybe next time it will be an nvidia gpu.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Remember the Ruby trailers for new GPUs? ATI knew how to do marketing :/

Back then, between 3DFX and ATI corp Nvidia could barely hold it's own. They did the smart thing buying 3DFX when they did

I'd say it's vice versa - AMD have the superior hardware but Nvidia have better PR, marketing and software

hmmm yea.... since HBM is currently available on AMD products but not on Nvidia products....

Software you have to give a credit to Nvidia they did work on it.

My point about the marketing methodology was about bring high-end gpus at a more affordable price methodology from AMD, but they had like weird gaps in their tech; specially CPU tech which is a different discussion. Like a R9 Fury X vs GTX 980/980 Ti you can't really say the Fury X will smash them off the charts even with similar price bracket. So I still think they are missing just a little something in their tech implementation....

Fury actually offers much more value than a 980 beating it by 20% on average.

But vs 980Ti is an other problem. Since where I live, New Zealand, the Fury's price tag sits with where a 980Ti would easily go for the 980Ti. Maybe the Fury lives in a better price where you are but I guess that's just what we need to deal with here :(

980 Ti is about 100$ more than a Fury X and 150$ more than a Fury(non-X) here

Uh if that is the case then yes, the Fury X/Fury lines are good for you mate :)

I guess import taxes and stuff just removes all of those advantages for us.

980 Ti/ Titan X 1200 / 2000

receptively all in NZD.

So yea... not much of a deal for us mate xD
