PC crashes while gaming with more than 1 RAM stick installed

Zaquex

Hi guys,

I built my new PC about 80 days ago. Everything was working fine until 4 days ago when my PC randomly shut down while I was playing a game. Now I have the problem that games cause my PC to crash very quickly, sometimes within seconds, sometimes within a few minutes (under 10 min.). The PC immediately shuts down (black screen, no blue screen). The problem happened overnight without me changing or updating anything.

I have tried to diagnose the problem and have done the following

  • installed a fresh Windows, updated all drives

  • checked the ram - Memory 1 (was not faulty Memtest86) but switched to new ram - Memory 2 just to be sure

  • rested the BIOS

  • disabled / enabled xmp

  • rebuilt the PC (I didn't check the pins of the CPU because I don't have any thermal paste)

I tried to diagnose the problem and found this:

A: With two or more sticks of ram, my pc crashes as described above (with xmp enabled, with xmp disabled / I didn’t mix the ram sticks).

B: With only one stick of ram (doesn't matter if memory 1 or memory 2) my pc no longer crashes while gaming.

Here is my PC (all parts are only 80 days old, apart from the Memory 1)

  • Mainboard: B550M DS3H rev. 1.5

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

  • GPU: RTX 4070 Gigabyte Windforce OC

  • Drive: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1 TB

  • PSU: Bequiet Silent 650 Watt Power 10

  • Memory 1 (old): G.Skill RipJaws 4x 8 GB DDR4 3200 MHz

  • Memory 1 (new): corsair Vengeance 2x 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz

I hope you can help me. Greetings from Germany and thanks

What BIOS version is the motherboard running?

Ryzen don't like 4 sticks of RAM that much.

Don't mix RAM. Only use a kit with matched pair.

What's this exactly. Doesn't sound very reliable.

That's a power problem.
Contact BeQuiet and talk to them about an RMA

My guess is OP is not a native english speaker. French at a guess.
It sounds like a BQ Silent 10

Yeah it is but why would it only crash if two or more sticks are in the system?

First things first, if you have that option - check your system with another PSU.

If not possible, the next culprit could be cpu/board/ram related. If the dimms work elsewhere, it could be so that either your board or cpu went bad.

Thanks for your comment. I will try to find someone with a similar power supply… if not I’ll just send cpu/mainboard/psi to the manufacturer…

Because only one stick is basically throttling your performance which will throttle the power draw.
Can you run a stress test?
