does older x79 enthusiast cpu compatable with newer x99 boards and vise versa?

They all use LGA 2011, so does something like 3930k compatable with x99 boards? and 5290k compatible with x79? I know that they use ddr3 in the older model and ddr4 in the newer one. Just wondering. I would never really need to use enthusiast system.

Basically, no. X99 uses 2011-3 and X79 uses 2011 iirc

I believe it's 2011_3 rather than 2011-3 but yes.

Where'd you get that? According to Intel (PDF, 542KB) it's LGA2011-v3.

No, it does not.

X99 is on LGA 2011-3 socket and X79 is on LGA 2011 socket.

Reading things that were incorrect in the past, as it appears.

Sig under construction.

Both X79 and X99 uses the same exact socket with the same number of pins. It's under the hood that different, which makes it not compatible with each other. And wrong section.

The clamping mechanism is completely different too.

Not anymore. I didn't pay attention to the location of the thread.

All they did is change the lever. Asus X99 boards run on OC socket, so it has extra pins.

It also supports the big server ships that spill out the sides.

Well it can spill out towards the edge of the board, as long it runs on 2011-3, then it should still work.
