Piracy Acceptable?

I have pirated a few things in my past and ever since I built my PC I have mostly stopped. However I recently pirated windows 10 so I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on the matter. Is it acceptable if it's a triple A game and not if its indie? I would like to hear everyone opinion.

6. Piracy, Copyright Material, Cracks and Product Keys

  • "Copyright Material" is any material protected by legally recognized copyright;
  • "Piracy" is the unauthorized copying of software or any material subject to copyright;
  • "Cracks" are programs that disable copy-protection technology;
  • A "Key" is a combination of numbers and/or letters required for software installation.

You may not request, distribute, link to or enable any activities which involve the procurement or distribution of pirated software, product cracks or keys or the supply, exchange or distribution of any copyright material including TV recordings. Doing so may result in the termination of your account without notice. In addition, any of the following violations are grounds for action being taken on your post and/or account:

  • Seeking help to create or find cracks.
  • Seeking missing files that are supplied with copyrighted installation CD(s)
  • Admitting to being involved in the distribution of copyrighted software/media, cracks and product keys.
  • Requesting or discussing the trade, sale, exchange or supply of any copyrighted material including (but not limited) to TV recordings, DVDs, movies, music, software etc.
  • Identifying torrents sources or websites where copyright material may be obtained.
  • Provide or request login details for restricted websites.

Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of our management.

I dont buy anything before trying it first if they dont provide a demo there is only one way left so it depends on your view.

Depends. Most people in the industry say, if you can't get it where you are, pirate away. In my opinion, if you like the game enough to finish it, just buy it. If not then think of it as a free trial. I don't think differently of AAA or Indie, it's really all about the price but people just think AAA is always $60 and indie is around $10. Not always true.

I don't find it acceptable. It's just plain disrespectful to the person(s) that created whatever you are pirating. 

If I want to enjoy product X, I should pay the amount that the producer of said product demands.

 

There can be made a case about the availability of products I.E: where one pirates a product becuase it's not available in whatever region you are in.

I don't think that is a good enough reason, but the case can certainly be made.

I pirate because I can spend my money on much more important things than software. I would prefer to buy but I just don't have the money, good thing Microsoft made my Windows 10 copy free.

Microsoft is the richest company in the world. They overcharge also. They say you have to pay $120 for a Windows licence which is complete bullshit.

 

They only overcharge because people expect it. If Microsoft originally started selling copies for $5 and then all of a sudden charged $100, people wouldn't buy their software.

 

This is coming from an extremely high torrenter. Currently downloading GTA 5 from Pirate Bay.

Nope not ok.

If you are just trying the game then it's maybe ok.

But an os isn't ok.

If I can't support the developer, I don't deserve to use the product.  That's my opinion.  

Even if they overcharge you? Like Creative Suite and CAD programs? They shouldn't charge an arm and leg for every customer when I'm sure it doesn't take nearly that much to create the software in the first place.

I accept from big corporations. If it's stock listed, they already have too much money and other sources for income. Indies have enough on their plate without me dipping into their income so I veer off.

Triple A maybe (These days I hardly play triple A titles,becasue they always tend to be fps) indie I think it's outright a bad thing

i sometimes torrent a game to see if it's worth the price before i buy it. did this with fallout 3/NV and skyrim. bought all those games on steam lateron.

that's about it. i also torrented my version of MS Office. but that's only because my free office download through my school didn't work.
