The Rosen Law Firm, a global investor rights law firm, announces it is investigating potential securities claims on behalf of investors of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD) resulting from allegations that Advanced Micro Devices may have issued materially misleading business information to the investing public.

On July 6, 2015, Advanced Micro Devices lowered its revenue estimate for the second quarter ended June 27 due to weaker sales of its chips to personal computer makers, specifically in the consumer PC segment. Advanced Micro Devices estimates its revenue will drop 8% from the first quarter, which is 5% lower than previous expectations. On this adverse news, shares of Advanced Micro Devices fell $0.38 per share or over 15% to close at $2.09 per share on July 7, 2015.

The Rosen Law Firm is preparing a class action lawsuit to recover losses suffered by Advanced Micro Devices investors.

AMD needs to be broken up into its two main components and be given cross-wise to Nvidia and Intel to let two actual heavyweights duke it out across both the CPU and GPU markets.

I still don't see why you're so certain that Intel would make consumer graphics cards. Even Nvidia making x86 CPUs is a pretty big stretch. Intel might use it to improve IGPs, but but your reasoning for them wanting to compete against Nvidia is basically revenge; that's just plain silly.

Because Intel already expressed that it wanted to with Larabee. GPUs are high-margin products built on rather simple circuits compared to CPUs. Furthermore, Intel would love to throw its full weight behind GPU-based accelerators in the HPC and professional spaces as well. It may not even that Intel's super interested in the consumer space. It's more that, by consequence of building for the professional/server spaces that there will be imperfect cards that don't make the top-brass cut that it will want to sell anyway. Those cards will go to consumer space. It's really that simple. Aim for the top and let the peasants have the flawed fruit. It's always been Intel's business strategy.

 

As per Nvidia, you do remember the original Denver K1 emulated x86 instructions right? Being in the x86 umbrella gives them ubiquity that ARM simply doesn't. It gives them flexibility to run from Intel if it has to while still benefiting from all the work that has gone into x86 compiler optimizations that ARM doesn't have.

 

As per the revenge, I think you forget that's exactly the same petty route Paul Otellini took over the Athlon 64 chips when AMD beat Intel outright for the first time, buying off the loyalty of OEM partners like Dell. Intel's shareholders and board of directors were both shaped by Otellini, To forget that legacy and not expect a repeat is rather foolish in my opinion.

APUs make the majority of AMD's revenues these days. AMd was caught doing it with Llano too and I think they lost that lawsuit.

While I agree that Intel would make GPUs for HPC, I question if they'll be able to compete in the consumer space with only cut-down chips.
