Skylake reportedly to be unveiled at Gamescom in August

I honestly can't remember people bashing on AMD because of that.

there was tons of people saying amd is stupid no one at E3 will care about gpus blah blah blah

Funny how I missed that since I'm always here. I don't see why that should be an issue.

me either buy hey its amd so we must bash on everything they do. they can find the cure for cancer and probably this forum will bash on them for putting doctors who do chemo therapy out of work

i read this first on a german webpage, i also found it on digitemes.com

 

" Intel's 14nm Skylake processors and 100-series chipsets for desktops are expected to be unveiled in early August at Gamescom in Germany. Intel will announce the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K as well as Z170 chipsets initially targeting gamers, according to sources from the upstream supply chain."

I'd be kinda disappointed if they didn't change up the naming scheme from Z77, Z87, Z97.... because Z107 just doesn't ring the same.

Interesting, if it's targeting gamers then perhaps these new cpus will see a significant increase in performance for games.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Hardware is powerful enough to drive games. Optimization and APIs suck, and that's mainly because half of today's so called AAA titles are just bad ports which need 1310516 patches to actually work. Oh, did I mention the DLCs?

 

Once DX12 hits the market and starts getting used by devs we might see some noticeable improvements in both raw performance and smoothness...

 

With that said..let's see what Skylake can do.

 they will move voltage regulator(or something that produces heat) to mobo

I'm fairly certain that somebody on this forum already confirmed that Skylake won't be soldered.

It's very unlikely we will hit 5GHz again until we transition off of silicon. Don't expect Zen to get there any more often either. The frequency ceiling for copper interconnects (which are as long as ever, even if thinner) is tough to break past, something I indirectly touched on in the graphene article I posted yesterday. If you want clock cycle latencies to come down, you have to shorten the interconnect paths, and frankly you need something that lets signals travel faster than copper allows.

 

4.7 on air is very achievable though. Sure you need a Noctua NH-D14/15 or something in that weight class, but it's doable.

It's very unlikely we will hit 5GHz again until we transition off of silicon. Don't expect Zen to get there any more often either. The frequency ceiling for copper interconnects (which are as long as ever, even if thinner) is tough to break past, something I indirectly touched on in the graphene article I posted yesterday. If you want clock cycle latencies to come down, you have to shorten the interconnect paths, and frankly you need something that lets signals travel faster than copper allows.

 

4.7 on air is very achievable though. Sure you need a Noctua NH-D14/15 or something in that weight class, but it's doable.

photonics is going nowhere. You will never shrink the lithography down as far and as fast as you can physical media. Both the projector and sensor have to be certain sizes to perceive the wavelengths of light intended for use in such a system, and it means building 3D chips and setting up a cooling system for them that is in-line since you can't have solder or paste coat the chip and risk interfering with the photon paths.
