Yes :L

Yea, easily. I was going to do a few tests and whatnot.

Why does it say 290 in firestrike??

3Dmark isn't updated yet to recognize the card as the R9 390.  However, since the card is just a rebranded 290, it makes sense as to why 3Dmark determines it to be a 290 and not an unknown device.

7900X, Asus X670-E ROG Strix , 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000, 2 x Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB NVME, Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVME,  EVGA RTX3080TI FTW3

I'm not surprised at all. the difference between a 290 and 290x was minimal, the difference between a 290x and 970 is minimal sooo.. a 390 would be marginal against a 970..

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

That's a nice backplate though  ;)

And cooler than a 970 in furmark? That's a pretty capable cooler

Because they only changed the 2 to a 3 on the box?

And I instantly went to this...

The 45second mark peoples....

We didn't "improve it' per'say.. we just tacked on some extra's for what's already there... that we had laying around... OC-headroom and some Memory chips,..and the oh-so hard working bios renaming guys,.. kudo's for a job well done.

I doubt drivers are gunna do shit for these 'micro' changes,.. they are not architectural changes so its only the small clockspeed gain (any man and his dog with a 290/290x could get 1050/1100mhz without trouble, but thats it, the small OC given,.., drivers wont do anything more for the 390x than the 290x gets because there is not a new GCN model, or improvements of that nature either.

:( I wish their entire product stack would ALREADY have GCN 2.# and Trueaudio and those other features the (7790/260x) & 290/290x have.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Glad you benchmarked it for us. The end result is basically exactly what we all thought. The 390 isn't bad.... but don't pretend it's something NEW and fresh. It looked like it ran cooler than I had expected, that's about it.

Well having it do less that 90 on furmark on an xfx card is new. My 7950s run at 85 under maximum load and they are inside ofna custom ducting system that keeps 85 degrees quiet.

It's important to note that the launch price for the 390x 8GB is 70USD cheaper than the 290x 4GB launch price, combined with a 5% (generous assumption i may add) performance increase it's a good card. Had  the 970 been released the 16th as well, it would have been a very good contender, and it will be for those looking for a card with around 350USD budget. Especially considering the massive frame buffer.

Motherboard: Asus X570-E
CPU: 3900x 4.3GHZ

Memory: G.skill Trident GTZR 3200mhz cl14

GPU: AMD RX 570

SSD1: Corsair MP510 1TB

SSD2: Samsung MX500 500GB

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum

@Suika

I might have missed it in the comments somewhere, but are you gonna bench some games perhaps?

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

LOL when the 290x launched it was a 780 Ti competitor, something that was $150 cheaper with performance close to the king of the hill. Now it's a 970 competitor, so more an upper midrange card.

A 290 doesnt beat a 970 so what made you think a 390 would? Hell a 290x trades blows with a well OC'd 970. No shocking results here.

incorrect a 290x gets slaughtered by an ocd 970, i had this discussion with someone else, my 970 at stock on firestrike got 10900, his 290x got 10300, mine ocd gets 13600, good luck amd.

You do know that you can OC the 290 right?

the 290x hardly overclocks and with the temps it already reaches i wouldnt even attempt to anyway.

The way AMD cards overclock is different. Yes the speeds are not impressive, but the fps gain is more with each mhz increase.

And what temps? If you're comparing a blower style 970 with a blower style 290, you'll have a hard time overclocking both the cards.

A 290 with an aftermarket heatsink runs cooler and the same would be with the 970.

you do realise im talking about the 290x? the 290 is not on par with the 970 and never will be.

You talking about graphic score right? If that is total score i'm totally selling my card.

Since you have 4970 then i'm sure you talking about GPU score. You only need 1150/1500 on 290x to get 13.6k.
