Experiences with non-techies

On the off-chance that you are not trolling.

The two halves of that statement don't compute.

How can it be "perfectly healthy" and make a "clicking noise"?

The thing with SMART is that while if it reports an error, you have a problem, if it says "all good" that doesn't mean that there are no problems, it just means that there haven't yet been any faults. A clicking noise isn't good, and while it doesn't mean that your drive is completely dead, it suggests that there is a mechanical fault, which means that it's likely that the drive is dying. My brother's laptop's HDD is clicking and sometimes freezes on boot, which I think is a fair indication that it doesn't have long left. He did drop it while it was on a while back, which broke the screen and could easily have damaged the drive as well.

So IT reports IT has no errors and that is it, it's perfectly healthy?

Even if it was (at the moment) "perfectly healthy" I would be very wary that a noise meant it was on its way out.

Mind you I tend to assume all HDD are just one rev away from totally 'spazzing out'.

When my mom's friend came over an external monitor was attached to an iMac. When she saw this she said, "How do you connect a Samsung to an Apple?" (monitor was a 27" Samsung). (it was with HDMI to a HDMI to mini display port adapter.) I don't recall that I answered the question since I thought she wouldn't understand.

My Build : AMD Ryzen 9 3950X - Asus Strix X570-E - 64GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo

- Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti - 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD - Corsair AX860i Power Supply

I have already sinned I was at best buy and I saw a old couple at the dumb stupid geeksquad desk. In the end they had there brightness all the way down but they tried to get them to get a new laptop. They (the old couple) where looking at the screen with a flashlight to see it. :( I felt so bad for them.(the old couple) But then one of the geeksquad employees runs over when the person helping them isn't looking and pressed the brightness button and fixed it.  :D I bet they fired him though :(

One of my friends worked at Futureshop last summer and he wasn't an asshole to consumers. Instead he showed them to the devices that would suit their needs instead of some over priced garbage. Surprisingly he wasn't hated by anyone (Although that could have been the result of him being good at making friends/speaking) and the only reason he stopped working there was because school started and he couldn't put in as much time as he could during the summer which they kind of wanted from him.

Happens.  The helpfulness soon gets removed though with the manager continualy saying "X you haven't reached your sales target again", either that or the 'helpful person' can't get on with the sell or get sacked atmosphere and moves on.

everyone from my local computer store is starting to come to me now :D

Because instead of fixing their issue, not telling them what was wrong and just dumping it with them.  I fix it, prevent it from happening again and tell them what was wrong and how to fix it if it happens again.  We need more computer stores with nice people like your friend.

They wanted to trick the old people into buying a new laptop even though it wasn't needed. and the kid showed them the problem and they left without spending money.

They would promote the guy that tried to sell them a new,pc

Last phrase in the post you quoted was  "I bet they fired him" then you 'said' "Best Buy would promote him" .  Seems perfectly reasonable, to assume , that "him" in both situations was the same person.

My religion teacher (I go to a catholic school because it's the only decent education around where I live) used a purple background and yellow text in all of her PowerPoint slides, and never turned down the lights. She then forced us to take notes.....

Look at my shiny. The logo lights up

I used to go to a catholic school because my mom forced me to.

The teacher used to not know how to unplug her laptop from the projector, so she just always left it in.

She had a really badly infected pc.  I could see a fake antivirus running in the background.  I was about 10 then, and so were all the other kids and we were watching a video on photosynthesis.  Then suddenly a porn advertisement filled the screen and everyone screamed.  They all hid under their desk and the teacher was so embarrassed.

There were lots of angry parents, I can remember my mom coming out of the classroom crying because she was so "emotionally torn" by the whole experience and I didn't know what I saw because my mom never told me about anything.  And so, she never told me.  I found out by myself years later what I saw, and me being a polite, clean guy I feel disgusted.

My spanish teacher's laptop is full of virus, we were once watching a video and it had pop ups every minute and that is considering that it wasn't connected to WiFi.

Also when I showed her a video off my phone she put it on her ear to hear the audio even though the speaker is in the back... But at least she is good at teaching, not so much been a techie.

Also it seems like the most common problem with all teachers is the projector even though they are some pretty basic ones they still are challenged to use them.

I don't do backups...

Reasons:

   1. I'm too lazy

   2. I don't have any files on my computer that are worth anything to me. I spend most of my time using chrome and playing games on steam which I can easily re-install on a        new storage device/computer

   3, I'm too fucking lazy

Your like Ubisoft then...

Your just digging your own grave, and you know it too.  That makes it even worse.

Then I'm also digging myself into my own pit: never done backups, hard drives are 4+ years old, one SSD died, still haven't learnt my lesson.

And yes, I also like to live dangerously...

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.
