I don’t get the idea of people saying that putting a cellphone in 1080p will drastically improve its performance.

In games and other apps where it renders stuff, yes it will. But in terms of general UX? Not really. You’d actually notice a difference if you’d improve the storage I/O and CPU and even then, we’re at the levels where improvements aren’t as obvious.

When I was still a teenager, I lived with my grandparents.  This is when I really started getting into computers and other tech-related things.  I also enjoyed playing video games.  As such, my grandfather got the idea that all I do is play games.  Now, nearly 13 years after moving out, I've gotten a job doing tech stuff for the army and have actually made a career out of my love for tech.  Even knowing this, my grandfather still equates being into tech with playing video games all the time.

My mum doesn't know how to print pictures from Facebook or any other site. She always bookmark every picture and after a week or so, ask me to print it for her. She has a penrium laptop with 2gb ram, i hate opening a lot of bookmark and saving every one. So I teach her at least how to save pictures, so i just need to paste it to a word doc.

The next week i saw her downloads folder full of .html files. When i asked her why she won't right click on the picture and not on the site's other stuff, she said oh, i taught it will know what i want save. Facepalm.

why go through pasting it into a word file? you can just print pictures directly

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Had a friend taking a course on IT, he had to uninstall overwatch on his laptop as his 120gb ssd was running out of space. Turns out he had a 1TB HDD in his laptop the entire time, and he didn't think to put anything on the HDD and just crammed everything onto the tiny boot ssd xD

I remember back in the day at the ripe young age of 8 my older brother told me to check out a website, newgrounds, that's all he said, just newgrounds, so I typed in newgrounds and hit enter and was met with a whole lot of nothing... he wouldn't show me how to do it until the next week and treated me like I was stupid.... I had never used the internet before and this was before google was a thing (also I just googled google xD)

About 2 years ago a friend said they wanted a gaming laptop on a budget, I found them a hella nice new laptop within their budget... a few days later they told me about their new laptop... it was worse than the one I suggested and cost them 30% more, a few months later they were complaining about how much they hated it and they couldn't play anything on it... They asked my advice, I told them to go back in time and get the one I told them too xD

For some reason, people tell me the color of their computer as if it makes it faster or something.

"Ya, I have the HP red one, really fast."

You are. Except for the 1070, the Pascal lineup is highly binned, desktop silicon underclocked and undervolted.

The 1070 trades clocks for CUDA cores between the desktop and mobile variant. Don't remember which is which though, but it shares roughly the same performance delta.

Indeed.

The funny part is that whatever I said isn’t rocket science. It’s information that’s already all over the internet. One Google search reveals all.

Look, I'm not the world's biggest fan of FaceID and the iPhone X, but I think you're overreacting quite a bit here.

FaceID, like many biometric means of authenticating on smartphones, require the use of a passcode as a means of access if biometric scanning fails or when the phone is rebooted or hasn't been used for a long while.

Furthermore, can't you already make an emergency call without unlocking the phone? I thought that's a standard feature on every smartphone out there.
