Experiences with non-techies

Anything with a “U” won’t be suitable for gaming.

Ideally, you want a processor with an “HQ” at the end. While the i5 7300HQ’s naming might seem that it is significantly slower than the i7 7700HQ, in reality it’s not all that slow. It loses out in HT, but as of this time, there’s not a heap of games that can take full advantage of multithreading.

Yes but I to this day have not seen a laptop that anyone owns that has had a HQ I5 either lol. Not even in the stores here.

I have the second highest teir MBP 15", that is a recent purchase. It performs better than I expected, and keeps up with the similarly spec'd Alienware laptops I've played with. Battery life is great. Cooling is decent, I can game on it and I haven't gotten it to throttle any worse than any other laptop I've tried.

And I just bought an Oculus Rift.

I can pick all 4 if I damn well please.

Friend had a 2016 MBP, once the fan kicks in you grab hearing protection...

I guess somebody has never tried the Ryzen processors. And I also think he has never played a Vulkan title or used Adobe Premiere Pro, which will benefit GREATLY from multicore processing. Keep in mind we’re talking about the Ryzen Pro, which are Ryzen processors with enhanced security features for enterprise desktops, not ThreadRipper and EPYC.

The 1080TI is more then half the budget lol, but i guess you could get in a R5 1400 in there? Should be just fine but I can't make a PCPP atm

You could, but it just seems silly to spend $800 on a 1080 Ti with a STRIX cooler (for example and $800 was the price as of this time) leaving $400 for the case, RAM, CPU, cooler, storage, etc.

I did a PCPP after reading that. Configured an R5 1600, H100i v2, 16GB of Ripjaws DDR4-3200, an MSI B350M mATX motherboard, a 250GB 950 EVO, a 1TB WD Blue 7200RPM and a STRIX 1080 Ti and before I could configure the power supply, case, additional fans and the OS, I already exceeded $1500.

I’d probably go with the middle one.

We haven’t configured a case and cooler though. I’m not sure if we can even put a 1080 Ti in a “shoebox”-sized case if it exists

What about an actual shoe box though. Those are more or less free if you have ever bought shoes. Just have the top open, cut a hole for the IO and possibly a hole for the GPU and you are done

My cousin thought no one used 4k monitors...

I use my 4K tv as a second monitor for my MacBook Pro and the only monitor to my emulation box

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Your level is below mine, pyo. Between 2x 27" 1080p, one at 60hz and the other at 75hz freesync, a 27" 1440p 144hz G-Sync, 42" 1080p smartTV, and 48" 4K Smartcast TV, you're miles below me, scrub, pyo.

There are two types of people.

Those who use metric for anything other than time and PC temps.

Awesome people.
