I call booooo for the reason why smartphones shouldn't have 1440p screens. At that screen size, with average viewing distance, it really is a waste of computational power, R&D, overall product cost, etc.

All new 8k display the most retina display we have ever made*

Scaled to 1440p

in reality it would probably be scaled 4k which would be in turn scaled 1080p because interpolation.

Desktop -  i5 4670k, GTX 770, Maximums VI Hero, 2X Kingston Hyper X 3k in raid zero.

Laptop - Lenovo X230 Intel 535 480GB, 16GB Gskill memory, Classic Keyboard Mod, Triple USB 3.0 Express Card.

LG wrongly says Apple has announced an 8K iMac, the media then spins that into something else. Total crap, meaningless story.

8 thousand dollars for an imac, sounds about right, but I wonder what the screen resolution will be?

Nah, all genuine uses aside, it's good to see companies pushing the tech forward even if majority of the domestic scene can't use it yet.

If you see a difference between 5k and 8k you are a fucking wizard. Don't delete my post pls.

It's not like you won't notice a difference between the two. Most people just can't pick out as much detail.

once you get to a certain age telling the difference between 1080 and anything becomes difficult.

I have to doubt that age is anywhere close..

not for you maybe, but some mornings I stand in front of my microwave wondering why windows is taking longer than usual to boot up.

FIY ... the 5K iMac / OS X already "generates" up to 6400x3600 pictures internally that are then scaled down to 5120x2880.

If they want to release a 32" (or bigger) screen with a similar resolution (dpi wise) like the 5K iMac, they have to go to 8K.

holy shit people these days. Ill get a lot of crap for this but,

apple plans a 8k display, everyone gets pissed off,

literally any other company "HOLY SHIT ITS THE FUTURE!!!!"

any other company pushing screen technology would be praised. when apple does it they are the devil. I dont understand people

To be fair, there is a lot of that going on from the Apple fanboys as well.

Some other companies does something cool = "no that's not needed, Apple knows what's best and since Apple isn't doing it it's useless". Just look in the thread about the Apple TV not supporting 4K if you want a very recent example.

Sour grapes happens on both sides.

Indeed. There's a distinct difference to not being able to distinguish every pixel in a side-by-side comparison, and still being able to tell that there is a difference.

Indeed, though I think in the case of Apple TV, I assume it'll just be a firmware update to add in 4K support. They would be very short sighted to not include the hardware capabilities when that's readily available.

very true, and Guess we just hear more of the pc elitist side of it here on the forum then the apple elitist side.

pushing any new technology is great, no matter what company does it IMO

That's people being pragmatic, not fanboys. Apple TV is a current product that is being sold now (or soon), whereas this is R&D for a specialist industrial product years in the future. If the latter weren't orders of magnitude more advanced than the former there'd be a real problem.

Apple hasn’t actually announced anything along those lines.

I would wait for Apple to announce it before going nuts.

LG has removed the blog post. We can read into that many different ways but realistically, what are the odds of this happening this year. Slim to none. The iMac can hardly power the 5k retina display. It was probably a bad april fool's joke gone wrong.

I can tell the difference on my 15" screen that runs at 3K, using anything worse looks pretty noticeable.

Get your eyes checked.

nothing to read into that.

apple wouldnt want any supplier to leak information or even speculate about future products.

you want to be a supplier for apple and make a lot of money?

than shut the fuck up.

it is a simple as that.
