Kim Dotcom has tried to bribe Lizard Squad. Just updated 26/12/14 With BBC Interview, Also:FinestSquad has just taken down Lizard Squads website

Why has Sony and Ms not invested into preventing this? They are merely skids with booters, you'd think that Sony etc could at least mitigate the attacks.

Don't give former megaupload premium users premium on mega, but give hackers (or whatever they are) instead.

DDoS is not hacking, but getting enough computers to DDoS PSN and XBox Live at the same time probably is. Just because this DDoS wasn't directly a hack, doesn't mean these people aren't hackers. They are very skilled, allegedly 3000 people without a single one getting caught.

they are basically renting servers and using them. they are not accessing data, they are just overflooding some network hardware

Hacking would be that they would DDoS the system... without using servers, so like turn down the switches for something small number of ports, like 100.

One of the kids is currently being interviewed on BBC5, just about to finish;

Just uploaded a recording of the interview, I had planned to record the interview. I actually found the interview fairly interesting. I have put my video on this topic.

Lizard Squad was trending on Twitter yesterday, there are two threads in the /news/ section discussing them. For fuck sake this is why they are relevant.

If you think about it this is genius publicity for MEGAUPLOADS. They are literally trending #1 on Facebook right now. So people that didn't know about them do now, you can't buy that level of advertisement.

This feels too much like rewarding negative behavior.
Not to be a negative-nancy, but would it really be that easy to track them down via MEGA memberships?

I don't think Lizard Squad cares about bribes.  If you read their motto "disrespect = disconnect", it doesn't seem like some stupid bribe is going to convince them to stop.

Well Lizard Squad knows all about disrespect, don't they. Disrespecting millions of gamers, that is. They're scum. Bribing them was a mistake, as it just further legitimatizes "hacking" as a source of income because it teaches them that they will in fact get paid or otherwise get what they want.

You damn well should care about this. You will when Steam or Origin is next, and GabeN tries to bribe them with free games or some other bullshit. This sets a very very dangerous precedent.
