If GTA San Andreas were to be rendered in ASCII it would look like this:

 

I just took a screenshot in the game,and converted the image to ASCII.

Notice that there is a lot of space between pixels.

This is one of the first rendering techniques in video games (You render an image out of plain text).

 

I used the command line on Windows to render it

So as an experiment I installed Windows on my little (thermally limited) Intel NUC to see how well it games with my eGPU. Paid the £12 or whatever for Doom Eternal on Steam and holy crap that’s a beautiful game, id software keeping up their track record (at least in my experience) of smooth gameplay on less than optimal hardware

 

(Edit: getting 90-120 FPS with vsync disabled)
