Now that Intel are working/dealing with the Israelis... maybe they will be a more trustworthy brand/company right. Their current business practices have improved right?

I get where you are coming from with the HP Stream Devices, but Chromebooks have a lot more merit to them than you might think.

The thing that Chromebooks do better than anyone else right now is ease of scalability. To achieve the functionality that Chromebooks give (file sync, login from anywhere, device tracking, etc.) on something like an HP Stream requires a much larger investment in backend infrastructure for Active Directory Logins and File Sync. With a Chromebooks, this really isn't an issue. You only have to pay for Google Apps and the actual devices, not the devices, an active directory server, file server, etc. required to get that functionality.

Having installed a majority of my school's network infrastructure where both Chromebooks and Active Directory Windows Machines (and some Macs) are used, I can say that managing and setting up Chromebooks (or Chromeboxes) was a far less painful process than setting up Active Directory and other file services.

Moreover, for someone like me who is still in high school and learning, it was much easier for me to get everything ready for the school year than having to tinker with and setup an Active Directory server to get feature-for-feature parity on the Windows devices. And I can see this applying to other schools' IT teams (who the majority of the time are not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers) rolling out entire sets of computers with relative ease and doesn't require them to spend extra money for a consultant to setup active directory for them—money that they might not have (public and even private schools don't usually have tons of extra money to afford expensive network and computer specialists).

For a single person, the Stream makes orders of magnitude more sense than a Chromebook, but for a large environment (like in a school) Chromebooks take the cake.

Spoiler

Main rig specs: i5-6500 (3.2 GHz), Cryorig H5 Universal, EVGA GTX 970 FTW+, 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 (2133MHz), Asus Z170i Pro Gaming, Samsung 950 PRO 256GB, Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX, LG 3440x1440 Ultrawide.

I still do not understand how they both slam PS4 and XBon One yet love the objectively weaker console, the WiiU.  Yes, the WiiU can get 1080p 60FPS, but the level of detail is way lower, and the online infrastructure is not as good.

The HP Stream sounds like a great product!  However, I've never purchased an HP product that was reliable.  My first HP laptop was recalled, and two flash drives I purchased fell apart at the plastic seam.  I'd like to see the build quality and their reliability.  Hopefully Linus will do a review of the 11 inch or 13 laptop!
