LGA775 Core2Duo, Core2Quad OVERCLOCKING guide

harrynowl

Find the PLL of your motherboard, usually it's near the top PCIe Slot. It's usually a ICS9 or SLG branded chip.

@terrytek newer is better I guess :)

I think this is it. http://www.foxconnchannel.com/driverdownload/Motherboard/Intel/Socket775/G41MX-K$F%202.0/BIOS/938F1P04.zip What do you plan to do with it? Is it possible to mod it?

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

You might add a advice: overcklocking lga775 you shuld always have a spare board laing around :D

weve overclocked the shit out of a friends q6600 once 4,1ghz at 4,2 it was very likley to shut off

he ran it at 3,9 for about a year then his asus ws board blew up

he got a new one and we killed the fan controller on it and it wouldnt boot anymore

we baked the mobo in his oven and now hes got a key chain with a 775 boards chipset hanging on it

pretty nerd-sexy imo :D

lol, mine died within a few seconds of posting with my X5450 running off 1.4v. Of course being me, I ghetto'd parts of one of my older motherboards (just don't ask, I almost set both motherboards on fire, twice). Rest in peace Celeron D rig.

What do you do to those poor boards :(

Well you were trying to run a 130W xeon @ 1.4v on what looks like a 3+1 phase board :P

Oh it was 3+1 phase, but it pushed 1.6v through my E8500, though with some mosfet of a VRM designed for a 130W Pentium 4 with no VRM cooling as well. I might have more luck no, then again, that's if the mosfet have a reliable enough contact with the motherboard.

Wolfdale-6M is 65W tdp, Harpertown-12M is 130W tdp @ stock/stock, that's like overclocked fx8350 power consumption vs overclocked i5 power consumption when you ramp them both up

I was actually amazed that I could make it hit 3.2GHz, even at stock speeds I could feel the heat radiating off the VRM (it had some crazy vdroop as well).

  • 4 weeks later...

well my mobo was not dead

but it barely alive since it only takes 20 seconds to boot

but just for one last fun

i tried to OC the E7200

10987383_10153080995926506_8810540022025

anything i need to adjust to hit higher?

340MHz fsb seems to be the limit without overkilling on the voltages or should it go higher?

this is on the stock air cooler

increase cpu voltage and memory voltage (DDR2 can do 2.1v no problem)

ok what sort of voltage you think you will be comfortable with the stock cooler and P31 board?

Well, I can't OC my E7400 on my Lenovo board. :( Thankfully, it seems that my 120GB 840 EVO lets the E7400 stretch its legs better, and it seems faster that it might actually be.

Tried PLL?

The Lenovo BIOS is useless. But at least it seems fast-ish due to my SSD.

the question is can one of these 25 E5200's beat either E6000?
