Its worth a shot, and if I can get some of the price knocked off even better. Though I can really OC since my liquid cooler got delivered literally 2minutes ago. The downside-it has to wait until I get home this afternoon. :angry:

Or know how to find stuff cheap, so far I've spent less than $200 on my OC rig, and it beats the crap out of any pre-built you'll see in shops (recycling parts from other desktops and laptops has helped too).

that does help to start with. i have found myself in a lucky position now where i can buy more expensive stuff, because i can use other parts like psu's and ram from my other builds. i'm hoping to spend about £120 on this 775 rig, but that is just for the board, cpu's and ram really as i dont bother with cases for benching and most coolers and psu's will work with any rig.

which to go for? should i wait and hope that the one with the q6600 goes cheaper or buy one with a q8200 now. Also is X48 that much worse than P45, because there are some nice X48 boards?

chipset wise p45 has a better tolerance for higher FSB speeds... idk why

that q8200 one isn't a bad deal though

In all honesty, make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM if you plan on doing anything with your rig other than overclocking, I've found that RAM frequency makes no difference in my rig. Just make sure they have good heat spreaders (3 of the 5 sticks I have can be overclocked from 800 to just over 1066MHz-the others have no heat spreader).

i don't. i am only going to do overclocking on this. :P as long as it can run windows 7 64 bit, cinebench and super pi and a few other cpu benchmarks its good.

faster = better

RAM speed is half the FSB speed so if you're pushing 2000mhz FSB you'll be running 1000mhz ram
i'm watch a few 1066mhz sets then. there is an 4X2gb kit for £50 bidding. i might buy them keep the best 2 and sell the other 2 to get some money back.

In that case just go with whatever has the biggest heat spreader, your going to need all the cooling you can get. (4GB is still the minimum I'd recommend, I used computers when I was at school that had 2GB of RAM and windows 7-it wasn't pretty)

Yo, somebody find me some quality DDR2 RAM on the cheap, at least 4GB more, cuz 4GB now isn't enough, and starving my PC honestly, and i need more. Better be something I can use 24/7 with no issues.

i dont want too high profile memory because i will be running air cooling. i will watch a few kits and see what happens.  :)

Lol, go to a local computer store/repair shop and ask if they have any second hand DDR2 RAM. I was able to get a stick of 2GB kingston HyperX 800MHz for $1, kingmax 800MHz RAM (no heat spreader) for 50c, and I had a friend give me a kit of 2x1GB Xtreem Dark Team Group Inc RAM for nothing (only been using it for 2 months since I found out where I had put it).

there aren't really any near me. and besides, i need MATCHING ram. I have 2 more slots, i need those 2 sticks to be the same lol

I'm not using matching RAM (except the Team kit which is in proper dual channel), I just made sure that each stick was able to run at the same voltage as the others, and that the base frequency was the same.
