90% sure this is completely legit, as there's nothing wrong or unusual about the pictures. Here's the reference design of the GTX 980 from Videocardz.com

This site also has pictures of the 390/390x, along with leaks from MSi, Zotac, and Galaxy. I believe they also picked up on the Asus stuff.

Again, it isn't entirely confirmed, but it makes sense, especially with all the new pictures of cooler designs popping up- why would you spend all that money to release a new cooling system on a 15-month old GPU?

I guess they don't want to reinvent the wheel. The cooler probably cost a lot to r and d and they want to milk it for all it's worth.

Nice to see that they're finally going up to 4gb.

I wonder if AMD's new cards will have 6gb. Just to stick it to them.

Apparently because they want it to line up with the 900m GPU's, since we already have 800m GPU's. They apparently don't want people to get confused. -_-

Is that truly an all-aluminum shroud? It doesn't look like plastic (the backplate is suspicious though).

It looks like plastic to me honestly, though the shroud looks to actually be full aluminum.

The reference "titan" cooler actually performs pretty nicely, so I'm happy with that. If they actually include a backplate with every reference card then that's pretty cool.

If you look at the picture of the rear of the 980 card, you can see it shows the 6+8 pin soldering points.

Your right, but the connectors themselves are certainly two 6 pin connectors...

 

980ti use perhaps?... Half life 3?...

SLI fingers? Still?

Theoretically speaking, bridged connections should always have more potential than bridgeless. Nvidia just sucks at it, and they can't have Intel's Xeon Phi scaler because they snubbed Intel on the Larrabe deal. Oh well. When you XFire 2 Xeon Phis, you get 185% the performance of 1. Not bad considering.

It works and it's beautiful, but now it comes with a backplate which is nice. You don't always have to change what isn't broken.

 

I do however wish the shroud were all black, and the LED changeable in reference design.

I'm guessing it's so if the manufacturer chooses to use an 8-pin for better stock or user overclocks.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.
