Apple up to no good? They could possibly be intentionally slowing down older devices.

DeViLzzz

Microsoft intentionally slows down their older equipment on purpose so you'll have to upgrade to newer stuff. Proof: Upgraded from windows 98se to xp years ago and it didn't run very well.

Context is extremely important. Please post full specs of said rig. Win 98SE and Win XP have HUGE differences in requirements because XP is way way heavier to run - for practical reasons. It's visually much more appealing (although this is opinion based) with lots of improved features.

I sincerely hope your post is sarcastic.

Don't speak for Linus or Slick.  I don't think they would want you to do that.  Get it?

Then don't try and spout nonsense as facts and then blast anyone who disagrees with your biased position. Get it?

Not a surprise at all, my mom's iphone 4 runs like a brick since iOS 7 came out

Great, now do a study with a few thousand devices running iOS 7 and a few thousand running iOS 6, and compare just how much slower it really is. Is it slower within a margin or error or is it slower outside the margin?

Till then, personal anecdotes mean nothing.

I believe that I had already mentioned doing a personal test in this regard. I had compared my iPhone with my friends', which were not only different models, but also different software versions (basically the entire rainbow). The result of that test, was that the differences in performance was too small to even be worth mentioning. This was in no way a general study, but it is an indication that the "gimping" problem is not as wide scale as the OP is implying.

yup, for everyone person that has a problem you'll have a person who doesn't have a problem.

I just hate turning mountains out of insignificant molehills like that. There isn't really some grave problem, is there? So why make it one?

My iPad 4th generation ran a little lamely in iOS 7, certainly not as blazing fast as you'd expect. But hey, I now have a iOS 8 beta on it and...its very smooth? WTF?! WHAT WITCHCRAFT IS THIS? APPLE SPED UP MY DEVICE!

My god, all aboard the hype train, just because Google terms get searched a bit more often after launch doesn't mean they slow down their devices.

If a new device gets launched you'll feel your device is slow and old, and if you then compare them that feeling gets even worse (doh)

Even then the new OS's get optimized for the newer devices, so of course it may feel a bit slower on an older device,

but even the iPhone 4 got iOS7 (with some features stripped) which is 4 years old now.

How many Androids have had this long of a support time?

Also would you like me to remind you of how Samsung etc wouldn't update their device because of the lack of RAM even though devs on sites had ported Android to the device and it worked pretty well??

Gotta love all the shit talk about Apple here for no reason whatsoever, good job guys.

Eh, I have a few different Android devices running a bunch of different Android kernels, and besides apps not working on 2.3 or 2.2, I can't tell the difference between them. Oh, the single cores can't play HD video either.

If apple's is different than this experience, then sure, I could see how people would be getting upset.

Seriously man, it's nice to see someone who isn't blinded by hate. If it turns out to be true, based on empirical evidence and solid proof via testing, benchmarks, and controlled comparisons, THEN we should get out the pitchforks.

And I will refer you to an article that explains things quite nicely. Granted it is an opinion piece, but it is much better than what evidence you have provided. In other words, nothing at all.

Edit: You added that title term AFTER the start of this debate. Nice try.

To be fair the problems with the initial release of iOS 7 on the iPhone is pretty well known and documented. However, it is a problem with one specific update on one specific device that was already three years old when the update hit. Beyond that with the 7.1 update there are tons of conflicting reports on how much the performance was fixed and in reality there is only so much Apple can do for a phone that old and that weak. If Apple truly wanted to force people to upgrade every year then they wouldn't support their devices for four years after release.

One thing I should add is that the "gimping" theory has been around for a rather long time, even before there was such thing as an "iPhone 4". Up to now there has been absolutely no scientific study to verify, or even deny it. That alone should tell people of how silly this debate is.

That was the gist of the point. I could at least bring SOMETHING to the table, whereas the OP brought... nothing but rage tantrums left right and center.

Also, as @dalekphalm explained, it is the responsibility of the OP to bring supporting papers to his cause, as he is making a claim. Since neither I nor Dalek has made a counterclaim, we are under no obligation to provide any evidence.

"worst tech blog in the world" is rather subjective, as I have seen worse sites than this, but as I said, It is an opinion piece. I put it out to illustrate another person's POV.
