Why?

Well I got fiber internet now, and I wanted to put the router in the living room and the switch from there in my office, so only one cable crossing the hallway.

So before the work should get started I wanted to fix the cable mess behind the TV and AV Receiver and home server... I came onto the power switch of the old power cord, really really light knock with my knuckle of my finger and it desintigrated into its atoms, metla springs shorting out the leftovers of the switch, sparks flying, server going down, all living room electronics went down...

Now I just need to lay the cable from the fiber port around the living room to the new place for the router... put in some cable clamps (those thing with nails) to get that cable put down nicely and finish the move of devices... I think next weekend will be the time... and then on 23. 1gbit interwebs ^^

Apologies for "spamming" lol but this just came in. WD Ultrastar DC HC510 10TB hard drive. Bought as a replacement for the aging 2tb drive in my Plex server. Got this from ebay for around 110 euros and it's in great condition both cosmetically and internally. Passes all sector tests and is in perfect health. Gonna take a while for the file transfer to complete though 😕

2023-08-22-22-15-59-806_1
2023-08-22-22-16-29-818_1
2023-08-22-22-22-14-466_1

USB C to A adapter:
2023-08-24-14-00-30-507_1

Anker Soundcore Sleep A10 Sleepbuds. Because my Bose Sleepbuds 2 died and were out of Warranty + it seems like Bose has abandoned the Sleepbuds Product line. It didn’t force me to make an account so it should be fine:
2023-08-28-22-48-23-853_1

Nice presentation:
2023-08-28-22-50-37-319_1
2023-08-28-23-17-45-343_1
2023-08-28-23-18-18-587_1

As always size S fits me best, so is the case with the Silicone Ear Tips and Wings:
2023-08-28-23-19-22-867_1
2023-08-28-23-01-30-601_1

LTX 2023 Merch:

2023-09-01-20-50-10-682_1
2023-09-01-21-01-46-882_1

The Whale Plushie is now Jessie’s new favourite Toy. I of course took of the Metal Chain and the tag before giving it to my Dogs:
2023-09-01-20-56-29-408_1
2023-09-01-21-02-44-230_1

Bonus Item:
2023-09-01-21-00-37-583_1

Well I’ve wanted one of these for a long time, finally decided to buy it after not having found any better options:

Logitech K400 Plus:
2023-09-20-20-08-31-002

That’s a rather interesting presentation:
2023-09-20-20-10-17-485
2023-09-20-20-16-20-568

It came with these non rechargeable AAs, but I of course use my rechargeable AAs since it’s just stupid to use Batteries nowadays which aren’t rechargable:
2023-09-20-20-12-35-897
2023-09-20-20-14-15-362

This thing is amazing, it works flawlessly with my phone, on the Steamdeck in both Game and Desktop mode and on my Desktop in Pop OS. Tho Valve hasn’t yet added Swiss German for the Keyboard layout in Game Mode, so will have to put up with just the Stock German layout for now which inverts my z and y and puts ä, ü and ö onto a secondary function layer on those keys.

30cm and 50cm Network Cables for me to decide which will be the right lenght because I want to setup my Raspberry Pi 4 on my Desk once I’ve setup Pi Hole on it again now that I have Networked my Room with Ethernet:

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

How awful bad does that thumb drive slow down?

I bought a Dell laptop charger, 1tb 970 evo, new battery, and an Intel 9260 Wi-Fi to put together a laptop for friends girlfriend for her schooling. It's just a used Dell latitude 5590 with an i5 8250u but it'll do school just fine enough even if the screen is kind of meh and the speakers suck.

I bought an AMD A10-7850B APU, to make a whacky pfsense router out of some old hardware I have laying around:

- A10-7850B processor

- 2x8GB 2133mhz DDR3

- 128gb NVMe drive

- A88X motherboard has built-in PCIe gigabit ethernet

- 4x1 gigabit PCIe card

- EVGA 500w power supply

- Probably stuffed into an ancient eMachines case I have

A real hodgepodge of parts, but it should have enough capability for my gigabit fiber connection. My current wireless router doesn't cut it anymore, and it will now only be my wireless access point.

Almost same thing.

They fit the same stuff just cold isn't electritronic.

While hot has electronic pins for a flash.

Properly configuration is critical to success. I had mine setup just fine....when it was only me. When my GF moved in the cache would overflow and crash it.

I’m starting to question my setup plans, but I have other options. The Ethernet controller on that AMD board is a Realtek, and apparently those don’t work too well. I have a Supermicro LGA 1150 board for 4th gen core processors, and it has a stronger processor in it (i5 4570) as well. It has dual Intel Ethernet controllers onboard, and I discovered I have a 6 x 1gb Ethernet card that has Intel controllers.

Aside from the higher memory bandwidth (2133 on AMD vs 1333 on Intel), and only SATA support on the Intel board, the Supermicro is probably better for this task. Also, I may go Opnsense rather than pfsense, but haven’t decided yet.

You can always grab a PCIe Intel based NIC for it. I ran a dual port PCI one with a dual core Atom ages ago with a bunch of RAM and a small SSD. My configuration issue was in relation to local cache, as a single user it was fine but with a 2nd media heavy user the local cache filled up and I didn't have it set to fail properly so it would crash something and do weird things and not load elements from cache so websites would look broken. I'm sure it's a lot easier to use since then like 8 years ago. I've been using a "pro grade" Synology router AC something or other that I scored used fairly cheap, it reboots itself once a week at a non important time of day and has been rock solid stable.

one thing about the n-95 ,you need to be carefukl with the micro-sd slot cover , the connecting piece can just break or the cover itself can become loose ,luckily replacement housings are very cheap now . XD

It has dual Intel Ethernet controllers onboard, and I discovered I have a 6 x 1gb Ethernet card that has Intel controllers.

also seems that ever sub manf /part manf that asus and msi used for the 10gb rj cards.

the driver for it perm damage the card.

am very wary of wifi cards atm from 2021 and up.
