All that said, I will be returning the monitor.

It ... Is not what I was expecting out of a 165hz panel. There's a dizzying amount of ghosting/smearing when moving things around on the screen.

(potato quality, but you can clearly see the smearing around the blacks of the avatars)

I would definitely get another 32inch monitor in the future... but I'm returning this as soon as I get the vesa mount adapter for my old AOC U2879VF monitor, to put on the monitor arm I got with this 32inch monitor.

So you are trying to show Black smearing on a highly compressed youtube video, with a phone camera that also introduce this type of behavior

To be honest, no screen has it all today. QD OLED is unusable because of the Subpixel layout, and the retention. MiniLED, has haloing, although it might be the best alternative, and is EXPENSIVE, and has the lower responserate of a normal LCD panel.

VA are far from good at movement, even though they are 165hz versions of those. and they do have the better blacklevels of non-oleds

IPS well maybe with Mini LED the best panel type, good colors, decent angles, but for some IPS glow is simply not okay, bothered me for months on my first 4K Dell IPS display. (the first ACTUAL 60hz full color spectrum 4K)

TN although FAST that is all they have working for it.

I think in my many years looking for perfection my "learning" is that.. there is none. and some things like for instance with QD-OLED where many applaud it, for others the Fringing of windows translation when running non RGB substructure is just a disqualifier, and that 1-2 years is the max for any OLED if you work in windows a lot. until you get UNDEFEATABLE Retention (there are golden samples).

My NOS PS/2 Microsoft Mouse 2.1A came today and it's perfect.  Looks like I'll be selling the older serial mouse I bought when I got the SS7 build a few months ago.  there's no way I need a serial mouse and a PS/2 mouse for my Slot 1 build.  Just waiting for the keyboard now 🙂

Do you know when the mouse was made? To not have a mouse wheel, or even a middle button, it must be very old. I'm pretty sure every mouse had a wheel by 2000? I assume it's a ball mouse?

Yeah not 100% on the date of manufacture but it's destined for Windows 98 PC so two buttons is about right.

Also just bought an upgrade for my Canon 100D webcam...

2 different LTT orders & one from Mighty Car Mods. The JerryRigEverything knife is surprisingly solid, a bit pricey? I guess. But honestly for the solid build quality, not bad. A second LTT screwdriver, cause why not. This time silver shaft, as I got a black shaft. Also got extra bits. LTT Backpack & Techsack, great feel for them. Gonna be very useful when I travel later this year. Plus I needed a new quality backpack. And a hoodie from my favourite Aussie YouTubers Mighty Car Mod, even if it is coming into the warmer months in Aus.

New Music gear

  • Sennheiser e906 Microphone
  • XLR cable
  • Shure Mic Clip
  • Small Mic stand

image.thumb.jpeg.f23719c7b2a3fd5d60197cb8f4545098.jpeg

Fits in well with the amp stack. I bought the mic stand and clip for the Shure SM57 I already have, so I can switch it between my preferred position on the Marshall DSL40C amp in the middle and the Marshall 1960 Vintage cabinet on the bottom, which I use for all the amps on top. The Sennheiser microphone is pretty much made to just dangle from the top of your amp/cab, no stand necessary. Need to do proper positioning later to figure out what sounds best. Finally I can record my guitars on two separate tracks simultaneously with two different sound characteristics.

An MSI K7D Master

I like buying stuff from other computer nerds because they package stuff properly, the way you would want a motherboard packaged based on having many motherboards sent to you with the worst packaging

not in the condition of the package but in like, a normal amount of packing tape used so you aren’t fighting the bubble wrap layers while trying to hold a somewhat delicate object inside of it

like who do you want to service your 2003 Toyota Corolla, a mechanic who owns a 2003 Toyota corolla

Who do you want to sell you vintage computer parts, someone who has bought a lot of vintage computer parts

Not really "recent" but i got a new chair. I'm pretty happy with it, especially at the price compared to what else i could get. It's all mesh which i want because I have a feeling it probably will take a lot longer to get flat (which prob isn't true). But for the price, it's decent, the mesh is kinda soft which kinda scares me bc i've been told to look for a more firm mesh bc then it won't get flat but i'm not complaining now. It doesn't have all the features but it has a headrest and "lumbar" support. I just wish the arm rest could go back further.Screenshot2023-09-06at11-10-02YourOrders.thumb.png.7ee294e25bb690529e0f16a33b1fbdcb.png

Although I did used to think Macbooks were not worth buying (still the case for intel based Macs), the new Apple silicon macs genuinely seem like a great school computer. So entering my masters i decided to replace my terrible battery lenovo ideapad with this. Very happy with it in terms of battery life and keeb+ trackpad.

Aw I've got a soft spot in my heart for older PC hardware...I mean back in the day motherboards were red or purple or blue..anything but the bog standard green. Thanks for posting these photos.

And I've just been reading up on some LEGO blogs saying they spotted a Star Wars UCS of the Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser containing 5374 pcs (LEGO 75367)... Damn my bank account!!!

In case you're curious, https://jaysbrickblog.com/news/first-look-at-the-lego-75367-ucs-venator/

I remember waiting 90 minutes before the LEGO store opened by me for the Titanic and they gave cards out to those waiting in line as they only had 6-available and I was the lucky one to be #1.

I just need to buy one of those 5-tiered steel racks from Costco to actually start building my collection of sets.

I know normally I won't buy "knock-off" stuff, but this is one thing we've used AliExpress for a ton. My son has ton's of "Lego" sets that aren't Lego (he has some that are too obviously). We ended up with just set's taken apart in bags as going that route as he's still got too many to display. Most of them are a fraction of the cost. IIRC the Bugatti in the image below was $80 shipped, I think the Lego one was $300?

legos1.jpg

Plus you occasionally end up with funny things, like instruction booklets that say "Star Wart" instead of Star Wars.... That gem came in his Millennium Falcon kit.

I know someone that has bought a knock-off R2-D2 that was pretty cheap and looks pretty comparable to the $200 LEGO set. Yeah that Bugatti one was $300 before they stopped selling it.
