He's not ugly. He is just doesn't look "cool". Your average geek I should say.

Austin is not ugly. Most women / gay guys would probably see him as a cute/dorky looking white guy.

And that last bit adds to the appeal since people seem to prefer the white look. I've seen better looking more ethnic looking people rate as less appealing because they were being compared to a more average looking white person.

Best example for me is Indian guys. I think they look great, but to many others the brown skin is a handicap/dampener on their looks.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...
