Lets share our "not recommended" things that we do to our computers. (Inspired by video about slicks build)

Yes! WD Blacks are really loud otherwise... But now I can barely hear mine! (My WD Red on the other hand is extremely quiet...)

I use it for anti-vibration mostly.  The drive would shake the entire HDD/SSD bay.  It's made of metal, so you can imagine the noise was pretty gnarly.

Don't hoover the fan filter while the fans are running.

I managed to break an AF140 doing that, snapped a blade off, then super glued it back on and managed to slice through my thumb while holding it for the glue to set.

don't put a floppy ( or any drive) with just one screw on the outside of your partly open case... ( if you're the only operator...do it...works just fine ^^ )

pluggn the PC directly to wall sometimes , HDD held in by rubber fittings from 2 old scavenged optical disc drives ,  actually the best thing i've ever done! the HDD is silent as it were dead!

That reminds me... Last year when I was overclocking my Pentium 4, I ghetto made a watercooling loop with some stuff I borrowed from my friend. I used some random LGA 1150 waterblock on it with a ton of cardboard and crap to hold it down.

My HDD used to dangle my the SATA power and Electrical tape.... Totally NOT recommended.

• LN2 CPU overclocking. Not recommend unless you know what you are doing. (I don't do this on my main computer)
• Voltage hacked MSi Afterburner to give me +100mV. Really bad idea, the extra performance is not worth it, but it's still pretty cool

My SSD is just resting on my HDD, with no tape at all

I was doing that, but now it has tape because the way the cables are managed it didn't really rest flat on it, so I taped it

before i got my new mobo, i was using a trashy prepriotary acer thing.  decided to get a corsair h110 but despite the mounting bracket being the correct one for my socket cpu, due to it being prepriotary, i could only get 3 of the 4 screws through the holes for the bracket.  needless to say, it wasnt cooling very well

 

tl:dr  AIO cooler was only connected by 3 screws cuz of prepriotary BS

My monitor and PC aren't plugged into a grounded electrical-socket, when I have my feet on my computercase I can feel it tingling on my socks, unless I upgrade the sockets my PC is constantly under static electricity.

My cable management is pretty sloppy on the other side of my mobo tray. Maybe not quite as bad as slicks but still ugly. Doesnt really bother me though cos isnt that the whole point of routing/hiding cabling? Who cares if it is messy where it will never been seen.

Dont't leave your case open when it's under table. You may put your foots to fans, pull out GPU etc..

Well, I put my plate of food on my PC all the time.

Well, I put my plate of food on my PC all the time.

It is not recommended by me because i lost a motherboard that way. Some sauce from some stew chicken ran off the plate and on my ram slots and killed my motherboard. At that time it was a biostar something or other.

if you only have 2 prong plugs it is unlikely that there will be a ground wire running to the box to connect to a three prong plug so you would need to upgrade the wiring in the house as well as the plug.
